I usually order seafood....except when we dine at La Tapa. The filet mignon served with a Stilton bread pudding and green beens is wonderful. IMHO, their filet is better than Ruth's Chris or Delmonico's. Also quite impressed with their wine list....we picked an excellent Rioja Reserva for 95.00....well worth the money. We selected the Rioja to toast our Melissa with.....it was one of her favorite wines....mia

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who takes pictures of the dishes we order!! If you see 3 fellas next week looking mortified while a fabulous dish takes pictures of their sustenance... or should that be the other way around....either way, that's us.

My favorite is rhumblines(very spicy for me but I love it) and Stone Terrace(always romantic) though I have had very few bad meals in St. John. Guess I am always lucky. Or perhaps it's because we eat in most nights and after doing the cooking and cleanup anything I am not responsible for tastes good!!

So I went back through my notes to see which dishes we raved about the most. Here is what I came up with:
Blue Moon Café: Tuna three ways appetizer
Off the Hook: Snapper roasted in banana leaves
La Tapa: Bread with La Tapa dipping sauces, grilled shrimp with garlic aioli, cheese plate
Tage: Appetizer sampler plate, white chocolate-tarragon soufflé
Stone Terrace: Grilled tuna with roasted corn risotto and fried hearts of palm
Panini Beach: Grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and artichoke panini
Lime Inn: Blackened shrimp, Caribbean lobster
Miss Lucys: Crunch fish with mango chutney, spinach soufflé
Asolare: Grilled tuna with curry sauce and coconut rice
Zozos: Antipasto for two, the wine list
Shipwreck Landing: Grilled grouper soft tacos
Miss Vie’s Snack Shack: Garlic chicken

This is great info for our trip! Thanks!
Does La Tapa have a web site or a menu online somewhere? I searched but came up empty. I'm also curious about their wine list. One of our favorite wines at home is a Rioja (Marqués de Cáceres Crianza). I'd live to try the Rioja Reserva that Mia mentioned but if they have Marqués de Cáceres that would work.

Ron_L, I don't think they have a website. Their wine list is really good though. John is the keeper of our wine tasting notes, so when I get home I'll check his journal and let you know what we had there. Zozos has an awesome wine list, too, FYI.

Ron-L,
I can't remember the vintage or winery of the Rioja we drank that night when we went to La Tapa. I can tell you the price($95.00) and that it was the third wine listed under the Riojas.

...Don't recall seeing Marqués de Cáceres Crianza, but that's not to say they didn't have it.
I agree with liamsaunt....the cheese plate and bread with dipping sauces are very good. I know I'm repeating, but if you like a good steak once in a while, the filet mignon was wonderful and the stilton bread pudding is to die for.
The best wine we had on island was a 2004 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir at Stone Terrace.....mia

I really like Subway. The quality is the absolute best, the service is the fastest on the island, plenty of free parking, and if they don't have change for a hundred you can always go next door and get it.
You know, it's only fair that we have a catagory for excellence in take out. Subway gets points for baking their own bread which is key to a satisfying submarine experience. However as a Yank who was born within spitting distance of the King of all submarine sandwiches, the famous Philly Cheesesteak, I can only get too excited over Subway. But I do love that that guy on Oprah who lost 300 lbs eating nothing but the Subway Turkey Sub w/ 6 grams of fat 3 times a day but I digress.
My favorite take out experience is thus: I make up a batch of delicioso margaritas in a pitcher and pack it in the cooler. Then I call Margarita Phil's and order 4 orders of Jalapeno Poppers to go. We ignore the bartenders tude and pick them up on our way to Gibney. My little slice o heaven. I'm telling you 72 virgins have nothin on a pitcher of Margs and jalepeno poppers at Gibney. Could this be the secret to world peace?
Next we have Joe's BBQ of course but my dirty little secret is that his ribs are good but I don't think they are the best, don't hate me. The real star of that show is the macaroni salad. You heard it here.
The words on the screen are starting to swim around so it is time to step away from my Cosmo and enter final departure prep mode. Life is good. Much love from Rockport and we'll chat soon!

Marcia Marcia Marcia. Just returned from STJ last Saturday. Uncle Joes is a no brainer! You just can not go wrong for a basic good meal for the price. We also ate at Cafe Roma on Wed night and the service and food were excellent. She had pasta stuffed with seafood and a very nice sauce and I had fettucine alfredo with chicken which was also excellent. However we went back Friday night and the food was not as good but it was not bad either.(had to be a differint chef) and the service was absolutely the pits. Female waitress could have cared less if we were there or not. Had to ask for everything. I would go back however and I would reccommend. And for an afternoon lunch and drink and place to watch the world go by you have to go to the Beach Bar. Stacey was bartending during the week and Brad was ther on Sunday PM before the jazz music started, Great place people etc.
