Below are some excerpts from Joseph Goebbels' speech to the German people on December 31, 1938. The language and tactics employed here are very similar to what we're seeing today. Obama is now instructing his ACORN thugs to attend these Town Hall meetings to intimidate the dissenters.

Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's Minister of Information (today we would call this MSNBC, CNN, NYT's, or Washington Post), in 1938:
That is the important thing about the big historic events of the past year. The people did not waver during the difficult tensions that were involved, and had to be involved (remember, stimulus HAD to be passed, Healthcare HAS to be passed, Bailouts HAD to be executed). The broad masses of the people have a primitive and incorruptible ability to believe that everything is possible and reachable if one devotes one's full energies and fights with a strong and courageous heart.
This ability to believe is rather weak in some circles, above all in those with money and education (divide the people along economic lines...soak the "rich", insurance companies are the enemy, pharma is evil, but organized unions and lawers are great). They may trust more in pure cold reason than a glowing idealistic heart (Yes, common sense is the achilles' heel of the conservative). Our so-called intellectuals do not like to hear this, but it is true anyway. They know so much that in the end they do not know what to do with their wisdom (yesterday, Andrea Mitchell said on MSNBC that those of us who oppose healthcare "may not know what is best for them". Yes, Andrea dear, we are a bunch of rubes. Please tell me what is best for me.). They can see the past, but not much of the present, and nothing at all of the future. Their imagination is insufficient to deal with a distant goal in a way such that one already thinks it achieved.
That is why their carping criticisms generally focus on laughable trivialities. Whenever some unavoidable difficulty pops up, the kind of thing that always happens, they are immediately inclined to doubt everything and to throw the baby out with the bath water. To them difficulties are not there to be mastered, but rather to be surrendered to.
One cannot make history with such quivering people. They are only chaff in God's breath. Thankfully, they are only a thin intellectual or social upper class, particularly in the case of Germany. They are not an upper class in the sense that they govern the nation, but rather more a fact of nature like the bubbles of fat that always float on the surface of things.
They focus all their energies on the small problems that always are there, complain about the cost (yes, heaven forbid we actually want to know how we are to PAY for this debacle...oops, said "heaven" in a political debate...my bad) and believe that crises and unavoidable tensions are on the way. They are the complainers who never tire of bringing National Socialist Germany before the so-called court of world opinion. In the past they always found willing and thankful followers. Today, they only have a few backward intellectual Philistines in their camp (Yes, just as the media constantly says that the conservative movement is dead - we shall show otherwise in 2010).
The people want nothing to do with them. These Philistines are the 8/10 of one percent of the German people who have always said "no", who always say "no" now, and who will always say "no" in the future (Obama always admonishing those in favor of the status quo...The media saying repubs are "obstructionists" when they have absolutely NO POWER TO STOP ANYTHING). We cannot win them over, and do not even want to. They said "no" when Austria joined the Reich; they said "no" when the Sudetenland followed. They always say "no" as a matter of principle.
The people want nothing to do with these intellectual complainers. The year 1938 was filled with great and sometimes unnerving tension. But they are delighted at the close of this year with the Führer's great historical successes.

There's a few of us but, we're all hiding in the closet. I saw a bumping sticker on line the other day that if I was back in Ohio would be on my truck. not here, no way.cypressgirl wrote:God, I love you Kirk!! You must be the only anti Obama local on the island. Watch your back.I'll be there in 86 days to offer support.
I wonder how long one of those Obama as the joker posters would last down here? and what would happen to the person caught posting it?
Yawn = sailorgirl is bored of healthcare/obama talk. Who could blame her...It's only the most consequential legislation in the last 100 years. In fact, if O had his way, it would've been passed already without the benefit of any public debate whatsoever.
Not. So. Fast.

Nope. Bored about the predictability of you once again taking advantage of any current event post to launch other political rants.
But I did win a side bet that you would be compelled to chum with the Nazi bait due to the admirable lack of enabling replies, so thanks!

Throw me over the edge and let my spirit glide

OK, that was funny

Just drawing the correlation between the two, at least in terms of personality traits.jmq wrote:Nope. Bored about the predictability of you once again taking advantage of any current event post to launch other political rants.

Both meglomaniacs, both extremely narcissistic.
Not a fan of wiki (liberally biased), but I thought this was both funny and poignant given the subject matter:
Lets see, two memoirs written by the age of 45...25 Primetime newsconferences in his first six months...Yeah, I'd say he's in love with his own reflection. The term narcissism means love of oneself and refers to the set of character traits concerned with self-admiration, self-centeredness and self-regard. The name was chosen by Sigmund Freud, from the Greek myth of Narcissus, who was doomed to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water.
