Pickle, it was nice to be able to walk to the beach, but I don't think it is necessary. I really love the high up views, and John likes driving. Plus, the best snorkel spots (IMO) don't have houses on them. For me I think the perfect combination is a high up villa followed by some time at Caneel. I would stay at Vida de Mar again though if we could get the right price--we really fell in love with their pool and the house is very comfortable.

Minde, sometimes we dive down, and sometimes float on the top. I think if you dove towards an octopus you would just scare it away. For a situation like that (or like the shark) we shoot from the surface, zooming a little bit (not too much), and take lots and lots of pictures, hoping that one or two will come out OK. For fish, we usually swim down closer. John's able to stabilize and hover underwater, which helps his picture taking alot. I can dive quite far, but my hovering is not as good. I've thought about swimming with a weight belt to counter that, but haven't actually tried it.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I too am loving all your pictures but the Octopus is just the coolest. I have been pulling people into my office just to look at it. I think I have a new addition to my list of things I want to do if I hit the mega millions. I would bring you and John on my trips to STJ to be snorkeling guides and to have you cook because the restaurants don't hold a candle to you. Thanks for the reports! I am looking forward to more.

Thank you, Becky, (if I may call you that) for the info. I'll post on the off-topic, my other questions! I wasn't that interested in going underwater, until I saw your octopus.
LOL that sounds funny.
