Sock monkeys
I'm with you, I don't get it. And I don't see anything creepy. His posts on Oprah seemed to be making fun of rumors and how they spread. I enjoyed adding to that!Connie wrote:I really don't understand why some people are pissed off at "something".
I just don't get it????
On the flip side I will not lose sleep over it.

We've always called them sock puppets, here is the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_sock_puppet

I have been wondering how Joshie can be on line so much if he works at Woodys. He is on here all times of the day and evenings! I know a lot of people here (me included) go on line at work because we have a desk job and the availablity is too tempting to deny.
I don't know of any desk jobs at Woodys. I could be wrong.....
Honestly, I just ignore the people on here I don't care for and move on to the next post.

I don't think he works at Woodys but he sure acts like he goes there WAY too much.
It was funny at first, now I will agree. Creepy, weird, not funny and why did I just waste my time reading about it.
He was real nice and taught me how to post photos, I appreciate you taking the time to help me Joshie.
Joshie, just come out of the closet, be yourself. I am sure you are a nice person, you don't have to be a comedian. Do that before it is too late.

"Sponges grow in the ocean...I wonder how much deeper it would be if that didn't happen."
What I'm finding unusual is the extent to which a particular forum member is being openly discussed, criticized, praised and generally speculated about. I don't recall anything like this going on before. I've seen members addressing comments to other members or conversations/debates conducted or even insults traded. Then there's the whole parallel world of the PMs. But I really don't recall an open, ongoing dissection of a member. Some of the discussion is open and forthright, while some is more veiled innuendo. I don't really find Joshie creepy, I enjoy most of his humor and I appreciate his photos. I do find this dissection of him a bit creepy. And I also am astonished at the extent of his participation, particularly since he's on STJ. I'd also like to point out, as some members know, that if I regret something that I've poster, it's never too late to delete it.

Jorge was a very regular poster who had a sock monkey as his avatar at least some of the time. He was (is) very popular with many, but apparently less so with a few. A few members thought the sock monkey was creepy.(Odd)
Joshie's style has some similarity to Jorge, although Joshie is apparently a resident, etc. When someone asked if he, Joshie, was Jorge, he: A. Found out who Jorge is, by reading all the old posts, and B: added a sort of ghost sock monkey to his Woody's avatar...it would appear for a second every 20 seconds or so, fading in and out. I thought it was creative, and I've enjoyed most of Joshies posts, but... the only thing I find creepy about him is how many posts he's made-- like more in a month than I've made in a year, without the excuse of living somewhere else!
Thank you so much for the explanations about a sock monkey. Now I'm beginning to understand. I remember Jorge's avatar, but I haven't seen any sock monkey on Joshie's. It seems very creative to be able to do it in the way, you explain.
The link to sock puppets also helped me understand what is going on.

I had a sock monkey as a kid and I was scared of it.
That is why I might have thought it was creepy. But mostly I just think all of the silly things are funny. When people get nasty to each other, i.e politics thread and when people openly bash on each other it isn't fun anymore. Life is too short to be angry.

The problem that I have with the whole "Jorge/Joshie" thing is that it comes off as an inside joke...like a clique. I get it because I've been on this forum for way too long. But, it leaves others in the dark, wondering what the heck is going on. It makes them feel like outsiders. That's not nice.
There is a mean undertone to this self-aggrandizing behavior. Not a big fan.
