I'll have to tip my hat to High Tide also... we always go there but you don't read about it much here on the forum. There was a pretty good singer named just "James" last year. Was he a transient or will we find him somewhere when we come down next month?

Underrated: Um...the cocoberry shake?
A...Vickie... hasn't the smoothie shack at wharfside been replaced by a taco stand?

This occurred to me, as well, but I was too scared to say something.

Underrated - The Inn At Tamarind Court. Great food, great value, free WiFi FTW! Love the Nancys that sit near the huge cabinet that is purported to hold a TV.

Overrated - Bar & food at the Westin. Just one visit to be fair, if I return it will just be to sneak in the hot tub

Tap Room's beer selection. Do they have any beers that aren't infused with something sweet?

Awesome Bartender though, blond dood who dried out, purty wife. Aw whats his name?

I think James is an island regular; we caught him at the old High Tide (Rumbalaya ) a few years ago.

Back to the Thread -

OverRated:
Uncle Joes BBQ (ribs, chix - all the same)
Skinny's - burgers good; not a fan of the flies
Villa Gravity
CarryOn Only and sending packages ahead

UnderRated
Trunk Bay -so there's people. What's wrong with people?

OK I'm dipping my toe in here even though I've only been once (but next trip is being planned!):

Overrated: AC. We were there in Decemeber/January so that probably makes a difference, but the breezes were more than sufficient and sometimes I turned off the ceiling fans at night. Plus I love sleeping with the windows open and hearing all those crazy frog and bird sounds.

Underrated: Sadie Sea. We did a snorkle trip with them and loved it. Great price, friendly people, very clean boat. I only say underrated because I don't think I've seen ever them mentioned here.

Could never be rated highly enough: all the great info I get on the Forum! Just took a couple great hints from this thread.

Over: Skinny's.... I guess it's where you're coming from. Since we're a family just coming for a good burger in the afternoon after 3 tries 3 years in a row it is off of our list. I just can't get past the lack of breezes, the smell, flies, outhouse, etc. If I were going out for a drink at night without the kids when it was cooler to hear some music, watch a game or just hang I bet we'd like it. But I still wouldn't eat there and I'd try not to pee unless I was blotto.

Under: I have many more favorite things than complaints. Of all the breathtakingly beautiful sights the one sticking in my mind right now is the full moon setting over Cruz Bay.

Wow! Cool. You must have been up really early or out really late to see the full moon set! I can't seem to do either while on STJ... We had a great show last year at Compass Rose. After watching a brilliant sunset we turned around and watched the full moon rise over the hill in the east. :)

Bad STJ is still pretty darn good! and Never tried Uncle Joes BBQ because we're from kansas city area, and quite frankly, have learned the hard way that nowhere compares to bbq here.

Underrated:

We also really enjoyed High Tide.

Delli Grotto, best place on the island for a great, inexpensive meal.

Dinner at Maho Camps. Food is adequate and well priced. Sunset is priceless.

Beaches and Snorkling. 2nd to none.

Driving and exploring island roads. Great fun.

Overrated:

Skinnys. We'll go there again, because it is on the Coral Bay end and food is fine, but I don't get the big deal.

Miss Lucys. I wanted to like it. I really did. But the wait staff was rude, the food cold, and sand fleas ate us alive. Will not go back.

Good or bad. I can't wait to return in less than 2 months

It was really early Steve....still dark. I'd guess 4am ish. The bright light woke me up like a spotlight shining in the window. I was able to get this shot that I recently posted on the "villa views" thread. It would have been clearer if I'd had a tripod. Image

Regarding James: James and his family are off island until next season. Look for him next year.

Regarding the Cocoberry shake: I am sure Mojo Cafe can perfect this recipe. Do not panic.
