hi! didn't read the whole thread so if this is a repeat sorry, my computer is a spazz! Just starting Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri. It was suggested to me by my brother who always has great reccomendations. Anyone read it? Just finished reading I am Charlotte Simmons. If you've read that one, doesn't "college creole: fuck patois" stick in your head? Hilarious!

LysaC - I agree with Gromit on everything she just said. The Twilight series is a good read that you won't be able to put down. I just started the last one today and am reading it slow because I don't want the series to be over.

Also, I liked the Witching Hour and Interview With a Vampire but those books are completely different than the Twilight series. These books are alot lighter in tone if you ask me.

Good recommendation Gromit!

i know i'll like the twilight series cuz i'm into the other tween books like harry potter and maximum ride etc.

it's good to know that y'all have read several of them and still like them. sometimes series go downhill after the first few (the maximum ride ones did).

thanks for reminding me about the twilight series :).

Nothintolose-- OMG! I am totally in the same boat.

I JUST finished book 3 last night (eclipse) and it was probably my favorite so far.

I am on page 42 of the last book and have the same feelings as you do. On one hand I want to see where this whole thing goes, on the other I don't want it to end!

All I can say is that Bella is ONE lucky girl to have two men who are so passionate about her!! I'm seriously thinking about reading Book 3 again.

Mr. Gromit this morning was like, "Honey, we've been married more than 10 years and I have NEVER seen you read this much!"

All I can say is I'm glad that all the books are out I didn't have to wait in between!

Lysa - I was telling someone that I am glad I discovered the Twilight series AFTER all of them were written because it about killed me waiting for the next Harry Potter books to come out.

Gromit - that's how I was with the Harry Potter series. I started reading them when three of the books were already out. After I finished the third one the fourth one came out then I was miserable without the characters so I took my time reading the rest of them as they came out.

I find I tend to let books drag out when I really like them because I don't want them to end.

Gromit - I think I am about where you are in the fourth one, and I don't want it to end. What am I gonna do without Edward and Bella???

My younger sister's 3 year old asked her not to read any more books after she finished the Twilight series; I guess he wanted more of her time

I've always been a Science Fiction and Fantasy fan. The best series of my life comes from George R.R.Martin:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

There will be more but he is taking his sweet time. Also, the books may be made into a series for HBO.

I love these books for their gritty action and fantastic portrayals of the ensemble personalities, and the fact that NOBODY is immune from a gruesome fate in these stories. Also for the way that the author can lead you to hate certain characters, and over the course of the stories you can learn to kind of understand and grudgingly appreciate them. The chapters alternate points of view between several of the characters and they each have a unique voice.

This is the series I waited my adult life for.

I just finished Twilight last night. It was miserable. Because it ended. And I don't have the next one yet!

I could not put it down! I have been dragging butt at work this week, due to very little sleep staying up late reading! I'm heading out after work tomorrow to get the next one. I can't wait, because the first book had a bit of the first chapter in it at the back. I HAVE to know what happened at the Birthday Party!

Cass-- I finshed book 4 last night. Just go ahead and buy them all that way you won't have to suffer in between. You will LOVE book 2 and you will LOVE book 3 even more than that! Book 4 is in a whole other category and brings it all satisfyingly together!

Welcome to my new obsession!

I went to every store in two towns that sells books, this morning and this afternoon, and NOBODY has these books! I've got someone picking them up in St. Louis for me Monday. I told them to just buy the whole box set of hardbacks. I. am. dying. I almost started reading the first one again tonight to hold me over!

Hiaasen best picks?

I'm gearing up for a trip to Aruba in ~ 2 weeks and need to get a couple of books purchased for the trip, could someone reccomend two of the best Hiaasen novels? Thanks!

PA Girl wrote:I finished The Outlaw Sea last night. It is a non-fiction book about the global shipping industry. (yes, I am a geek)

Full of pirates, rogue operators, and the like. Interesting and well written.
PA Girl- This sounds interesting, can you elaborate a little more on what this one was like?
Thanks

sherban: I really liked Skinny Dip--John did too, and I recently read Stormy Weather, which is even funnier than Skinny Dip, I think, and one of the characters is in both books.

Now, please understand that these are the only two Hiaasen novels I've read, so there could be better ones out there!

Are you the one that recommended the book about Aruba--An Island Away? I read that recently on a forum recommendation--I think it was you?

Just sorta cathing up with "What are you reading?" I see that some of you have discovered the Twilight saga. My 21 year old got me sucked in a couple years ago. I loved the first three books. I was a total Twilight mom! We even went to the seriously crazy midnight release vampire party for the 4th book to which I proudly wore a blood red cami that said "bite me" on it LOL! I was so excited for the 4th book and I was ALL about Team Edward! I HATED IT!!! I won't give particulars for those of you yet to read it but she really just changed the whole tone of the series and well it was just too out there and that fierce all consuming, burning, die if I don't have you kind of love...I just didn't feel it with that last book. Something fell off for me. I finished it cause I wanted to know if it redeemed itself in the end but I just wanted to chuck it across the freaking room!

She was actually going to re-write Twilight from Edward's perspective in a new tale called Midnight Sun, then someone got a hold of her rough draft and circulated it on the internet. She got pi$$ed and decided not to write it. I was soo bummed. Reading what Edward was thinking especially in the beginning about Bella...that really appealed to me.

I have read her other book, The Host. It is very good. Very different and very entertaining. If you liked Twilight, you would probably enjoy it.

My daughter hated the 4th book too, worse than I did.

Liamsaunt- Yep that was me...what did you think?
My wife and I both read that one, we both enjoyed it but she said there was "too much detail" in a few spots... I figure that my interest in Aruba and Colombia both may have allowed me to enjoy the book more than some would, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope it wasn't a disaster for you...

We will be visiting Charlie's bar in San Nicholas because of the book and probably looking for the brothels too...
Cheers-
