If I could pick the candidate and running mate....
DC Photo - You took the words right off of my keyboard. I can't take that man seriously. Patrick's still in office because of his father and the fact that RI is a blue state ( which also happens to have a strange affinity for electing Republican Governors)DCphoto wrote:Lulu,
Patrick Kennedy is nothing like his dad, or maybe too much about like his dad. If we could keep him off drugs and sleeping pills he would be great!
PS - Donald Fagan and Walter Becker
I have had the privilege of working with Patrick Kennedy. He's actually a great man. I'll never forget my first impression of him -- I saw him on C-Span fighting for the Brady Bill. It was amazing to see someone fighting for what was right like that. Sure, he has his demons, but we all do. The difference is that Patrick's goal in life is to achieve mental health parity. I think there is a lot to be said for someone who realizes they have a problem, works to fix it and then realizes other people don't have the wealth and resources they do and works to fix it for all of us too. I would hope the people of Rhode Island (and all of America, really) realize that they are lucky to have him in their corner.DCphoto wrote:Lulu,

I consider myself privileged to have worked with Congressman Kennedy, and I truly think that if there is another Kennedy president, it will be him. (Although I did briefly wonder if Caroline would pull a Cheney and vet herself to be Obama's running mate...)
Honestly, I would love to have seen Sam Nunn seek the nomination, with Obama as the VP choice.
That said, Nunn has always,in the past, refused to endorse any presidential candidates. He broke that pattern last April by endorsing Barack Obama with great enthusiasm. With his history of being a highly respected Chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, along with his being generally to the right of center on most issues, his endorsement had the effect on me of taking a closer look at Obama. I liked what I saw.
I'm curious how Toes, Sj and Foxfan see Sam Nunn, and his endorsement of Obama?

When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
With the preasures of the presidency, I would not want a person with drug and alcohol problems in office. Just my opinion. I have photographed him many times in hearings on Capitol Hill, where he looked out of it. Just what I observed. I have met him also, along with the whole Kennedy family. Love when I get an assignment with Senator Ted Kennedy. I've been a photo jounalist in Washington for 20 years. I would love to see Caroline get seat in Congress, I think she would be great!
Boy, do i wish more people felt like that back when Bush2 was running......DCphoto wrote:With the preasures of the presidency, I would not want a person with drug and alcohol problems in office. < leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
Bush has admitted he had a drinking problem. He's the president now. I don't know if that's a glowing endorsement for folks with addictions to be president, but Patrick works hard and does what's right for the people. I have never seen him look "strung out," but I have only been around him a few times. But when I have talked to him, he has been sincere, insightful and intelligent.
If it's his time to be president, he will be. I wish his dad hadn't gotten sick, because I figured that Obama could make him VP and give him a chance to prove himself.
