People always like mini-meatballs in some kind of sauce, a peach jam and brandy sauce, or in that grape jelly/catsup sauce even. Could keep them in a big beanpot..

Tiny pizzas---too fancy?

I make these mini empanadas that everybody likes, no matter who they are. Just saute minced onion, minced garlic, crumbled chorizo, and black beans. Then mash it up with a potato masher. Add shredded cheddar. So you've got this mashed mixture that holds together really well for the filling.

If you buy empanada wraps (frozen 10 to a pack) at a Latin store or a place like Market Basket, you can cut 3 mini empanadas from each round and have 30 empanadas. Sounds like work but these honestly take no time to make. They freeze well too. Serve with sour cream and cilantro.

An easy appetizer that I like to make is a simple salsa with cilantro, lime, tomatoes, garlic, red onion, jalepeno peppers, salt, pepper and whatever else you might like to throw in. Sometime I use bell peppers, black olives, or rinsed/drained black beans. Just chop the ingredients, stir it all up, and refrigerate a few hours. You don't have to cook it, it's easy, and most people like it.

(I'm going to confess that when I see those little weinies with bbq sauce at a party, my mouth starts to water. I know it's not fancy, but ummm, they sure do taste good! )

How about the mini quiches you can get at Costco? Those are easy and always yummy. :D

I had to laugh at all your replies because I am just like X's SIL. I am a picky, non-fancy food eater. I love those damn cocktail weenies & yes, I put grape jelly in mine!

I do enjoy to see all your food porn but to be honest, I wouldn't eat 3/4 of it  Heck, I'm not even sure what 3/4 of it is. I grew up in a meat and potatoe house where the only spices used were salt, pepper, and on a special day - parsley.

This does have a plus side, I am a cheap date. No fancy restaurants for me, take me to the bar for nachos

Am I going to get kicked off this forum now???

How about a great fresh guacamole (You have no idea how many people think they hate guac because they are used to the mustard textured ones) with good chips.

Chop, don't mush, several avocados. Lots of finely chopped onions and garlic. Big generous squeezes of lime juice. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......Now I am hungry. Thanks a lot.

You left out the jalapenos and the cilantro. Also, core out some tomatos and chop them up also. Along with what you listed, and you'll have some damn good guacamole

How about a couple of heads of roasted garlic? Roast it at home, cover the dish w/ aluminum foil for travel, put a slab of softened brie cheese next to it, and toast a sliced baguette loaf drizzled w/ olive oil. Spread the bread slice with a clove of garlic and top with some brie. Sounds fancy, but tastes oh so good. Always a hit at our happy hours, even the kids love it.

I'm not a foodie, nor are most of my friends and family.

Here's a few things that we like -

Hummus, served with pita and red onion slices - could be that we like this since my mom's side is Syrian. Often made from scratch.

Chicken Wings, marinated in soy sauce, brown sugar and garlic (baked, of course)

Stromboli's

Chips and onion dip

The little weiners wrapped in some sort of dough (from the frozen food section).

My PA Dutch grandfather was the same way!

Interestingly, towards the end of his life, he crossed over to the other side and couldn't get enough of the "weird" stuff. He became so much fun to cook for.

On a special day, my mom would put a ton of sugar in spaghetti sauce or chili.

I am taking a block of cream cheese (tofu cream cheese but I won't tell anyone) and mixing it with some Penzey's parmesan peppercorn dressing mix. I will spread it on whole wheat tortillas and top with diced roasted red peppers. Roll them up and cut them into pinwheels.
I am also making some with hummus and peppers.

I bet she will be confused by the hummus but I just made a batch and I love it!
