pick a nice villa, drive to the beach

Post by curtisdesign »

This is my first post, so it's a test... (Hello)... anyway, unless you stay at Caneel (which is THE BEST), just pick a nice place to stay, rent a jeep, and drive to the beach. You don't need to stay on the beach-- driving is a lot of fun on this island! The north shore has a lot of nice beaches, so anything near there is good. Skip the Westin, it's not really St John. Have fun.

It's hard to find a villa for just 4-5 nights, though it might be do-able in Aug. Hillcrest Guest house is nice, right in Cruz Bay, and will do any number of nights. They are inexpensive but quaint and well kept. Gallows Point might also have availability in Aug. But I agree with the others - you can stay at Caneel Bay for under $500 per night, and that's the best on the island. You wouldn't really need a car; just spend 4 days lounging out at Caneel's excellent beaches and eating in their great restaurants. When you come back again, stay longer, rent a villa, and explore the rest of the island. It's all good.

peace.... bert
