Do you visit other forums?

Not a "chatty" forum, but I visit Bidding For Travel whenever I'm getting ready to bid on Priceline. Gives me a good idea of what's being accepted in the area I'm bidding. Also learned some good priceline strategies.
A wiki would be great. I set these up for clients all of the time and it works well. Hopefully the software you use will have version control so when someone goes in pulls a StJohnCaptain and links everything to an external site we can roll back the changes.Anthony wrote:I really do want to do this - we have some client work to finish, but I am hoping to do a major overhaul of the site and include a FAQ that may be set up as a blog or wiki so people can add and edit to it as information changes, etc. This will definitely come before the summer. The whole site (other than the forum) is going to change and there will tons of new stuff and new ways for people to leave information.RickG wrote:We really could build a STJ FAQ. We seem to answer the same questions again and again.
I looked at doing this myself on my own site, but it really belongs here where the community can keep it up.
Imagine "How to choose a villa?" as a wiki entry?!

I hang here
I started out on Vinow, but I like it here better
.
I have also used Cruise Critics prior to a couple of cruise vacas (they're great if you are planning a cruise!), but I'm not into cruising enough to hang out there outside of that time. It is VERY active - they have a separate thread for almost every cruise line! I find it amazing the number of addicted cruisers there are out there - even more-so than we are about the VI if that's possible!
Another board that provides a wealth of information if you are looking for any information Disney is DISboards.com. They have a thread for almost anything you can think of and people who will answer your questions almost before you ask. Again, I only visit when I have a Disney trip planned ( the kids, ya know), and for that they are wonderful.
I travel other places, but this is my home

Check out http://www.betterbidding.com for Hotwire info. The mods keep a master hotel list with specific amenities for each. This plus recent forum posts (much like biddingfortravel) allows you to figure out exacly which hotel they are listing. Also has priceline area but I prefer biddingfortravel for them. We use a lot for weekend trips or staying at airport the night before an early morning flight.mbw1024 wrote:janet, I use this alot too. recently have been wondering if there is any place to find out what hotels Hotwire offers. Tripadvisor is the first forum that I went to. I still like it for other destinations, but this is my favorite for St. John. I also like TTOL for BVI information. I would like to take a sailing trip someday, and I get great information for that from there. I occasionally look at vinow, but only when this one is too quiet.

I almost forgot. I have also been reading the Cayman Activity Guide lately, since we will be going there in a few days. I don't really like the way it is run, though. They erase posts if you mention a company that doesn't advertise with them. I'm sure there are lots of good establishments that I would like to learn about, but that is not the place. Someone was on there looking for a company to provision their condo. I tried to let them know who we were using and they kept deleting my posts. I tried to pm the person, but that wasn't allowed either. They would NEVER allow a topic like this one! Anthony, this site is the best!

This is definitely my USVI home. I look at the others every once in awhile to browse.
Fodors was actually helpful when planning my Italy/France trip and TA gave me some of the best recommendations.
cancunandrivieramaya.com is what I used for Mexico before I became addicted to STJ. Coming over here reminded me of the atmosphere of that board.
Travel is what I spend most of my internet time on!

This is a very friendly forum, but I think it's definetly more geared to people that vacation ON STJ. Really don't see alot of posts about STT, where we like to go. Still love reading though because we run over to STJ to shop and explore.
vinow is more geared to STT and STX, so that's kind of where I hang out. I actually left twice because of (well, i think some people here know why)
, but there's still so many nice people there, I keep on going back.

I recently broke up with my other forum habit. It wasn't travel related but a community message board that started off fun and friendly then degenerated into lots of cat fighting and name calling, usually over politics or old grudges. Too much negative energy for my taste. What a difference here. Even though I mostly lurk, I've come to really appreciate the kindness and genuine concern that folks here show for one another. I adore the senses of humor and shared love of the islands. I guess this is my new cyber home.
Regarding other travel boards, I did find volumes of helpful info while researching a family trip to Italy last summer on the Fodor's European Travel Forum.

I use these forums quite a bit when we travel to Europe.
