LMG- I'm not sure who you are talking to when you said-- "So, please, believe me or not, but stop with the messages. It's really getting quite ridiculous and I'm sure if you thought hard enough, you could find better things to do"... I'm assuming someone is sending you PMs about your report and the shark story, and your comment is directed to them.

But if ya got a beef with me (or my thread), just PM me.
Cheers-

Seriously, I have such a phobia of sharks that I need to have a couple of stiff drinks to really enjoy a snorkel. I can't stop thinking about the "what if's". I actually can let my imagination get so carried away that I visualize seeing one. I know I have a much better chance of drowning from some health crisis or being run over by a boat than being attacked by a shark. I do love to snorkel, but it does put a damper on my enjoyment. I really wish I could put a proper perspective on it and not be so worried all the time. I don't even like to float on rafts with my feet dangeling in the water, for fear one will come by and bite my foot off. I'm wierd.
I hear ya fruitcake! I think the same thing. As a matter of fact, I'll go you one further. Sometimes as I'm snorkeling along, out of nowhere, the theme from Jaws will start playing over and over in my head. I just can't enjoy it when the music starts to play so I get out. I'm weird too!

I fall into the category of "DENIAL". If I cannot see it, it will not bite me. So, I keep my head above water and stay close enuff to shore in case I need to run like h*ll.

Sorry LMG, for stirring up all the ridiculous shark talk. I know my fears are unfounded and I sure don't want to spread my weird phobia on to anyone else. I do enjoy snorkeling, I just need a few shots to relax.

Believe me, I've got lots of things to do instead of worry about my next snorkel in about 5 weeks. :D

Cypress- I'm sorry for the confusion. That wasn't directed at you. Just some PMs I've had, which I should have been more clear in saying before.

I do understand shark fear, for sure. I will rarely go in the water in Hawaii because of that. They have those jaws-like ones there.

LMG- I want to say "thank you" for sharing the shark story. I understand it wasn't any kind of attack or anything...but it was an interesting story that I appreciate you telling.
Cheers!

LOL! Several years ago in Maui, we were on a cat on our way out to snorkel the Molokini Crater. On the way there, one of the guys asked if we could stop and snorkel at this other spot. The captain's response was "sure, if you want to be Tiger Shark bait." It wasn't that far from the crater either ...and I actually got out of the boat and snorkeled...with the music playing...later I heard we had a Reef or Black Tip enjoying the crater sights as well. Glad I didn't meet him!

I also appreciated hearing the story LMG, even though it kinda scared the begeezus out of me. Seriously though, what does one do in a situation like that? Fin kick like LMG? Rip off your mask and smack it? Poke it in the eye with your snorkel? Anyone know?I'm sure I would of been frozen like stone and easy pickings.

We have seen tons of several sharks in the 4 trips we have been there and all have been nurse sharks except one by the island at Cinnamon that actually came back for a double take of us but I have to say, I am more worried about accidently hitting a sea urchin or fire coral or stepping on a stingray than I am about being attacked by a shark.

On another note, how many of you see the huge groups of fry or whatever they are called and immediately think they are gonna form shapes like in Finding Nemo??? I always do!

That's a great list, Sherban. I have one more don't. I heard on a local talk radio show that is hosted by a Dr., that peeing in the ocean attracts sharks. He was dead serious. Has anyone every heard that? I pee in the ocean all the time. I guess I better start peeing in shallow water.

Well Cyp, We'll need a shark expert to tell us if sharks are attracted to pee...I wouldn't be surprised. I'm going to resist kink jokes here... I also read the "warning" about swimming during menstration cycle, hadn't even thought about that but it makes sense.

Don't swim alone, don't chum the water, don't flash alot of bling under water,...well I would really like to see a shark (assuming it is smaller than me) so maybe I do all that stuff...swim alone with a couple raw tbones in my pockets, wear the wife's bling, and wiggle like a belly dancer...I just want a clear shot at the bloke (camera shot that is)...
