We didn't get in quite as low as you, but low enough that the recent dip is not a big deal. It will rebound. Apple is on their way to cornering the video content market just as they did with iTunes and audio. I don't know about you, but I don't even deal with CDs anymore...it's an outdated technology. Two years from now, DVDs will be the same.17th Hole wrote:Pete, I have Apple stock too. Hope you got it last year or sooner. It took a beating (like the rest of the market) this week and last. I got in a few years ago at around $12/share, so I'm still doing pretty good!

Hard drive? You had a hard drive?augie wrote:I remember when the PC AT replaced the XT and I wondered who'd ever need a 40KB hard drive...
Hehe, I still have my Exidy Sorcer that runs CP/M on 8" floppies.
Meanwhile, the new Apple Airport Extreme/1TB hard disk package is $499. The first time I built out a terabyte storage array it was on a Sun SC2000 with 1GB drives.

Wait until the new version comes out with the faster Edge support. Remember, the hardware is the least expensive part of the deal, the 2 year contract with AT&T is the expensive part.
I like the AT&T network. I run a Blackberry and a data card and spend about $200 per month. In fact, I need to pop over to the Tysons Corner AT&T store to get a data card for my new MacBook Pro. My next phone may be an iphone.

No problem. Its just jargon. What I meant to say is that new 3G version should be out soon, replacing the Edge version. 3G is about 4x faster than EDGE, YMMV. Estimates for the 3G version run from last week to June. It may come at a premium over the EDGE version. But NoVa has good data coverage and this could be an impressive device.

Hopefully Rick can answer that, because I have no idea either. My husband works in the technology industry and I am clueless. I am just really glad that you posted this question. I have been considering the iphone too, but didn't know if I should get it yet or wait. I did LOVE Vicki's pictures! and I hate to jog with my phone, ipod ....flip-flop wrote:Is it a problem that I have no idea what that means? My office IT dude who is voraciously PC vs. Mac (He's ok with Macs and gets the pretty, functional aspects but just is a PC guy) even likes it.
His wife has the touch, which I guess is pretty much the iPhone without the phone, and he says its damn impressive.
Rick - I can wait until last week .. I just dont know if I can wait until June!

The 3G may be faster but it'll be at a cost of battery life. Since you'll want long battery life probably more so than faster internet, I think you'll not gain too much in waiting for the next iPhone. I get pretty good speed when I'm surfing the net on my iPhone. Even watching Youtube videos isn't too bad on it. The great thing about the iPhone is that it'll automatically pick up any wifi in the area, so 8 times out of 10 your surfing at wifi speeds rather than on AT&T's EDGE network. Trust me, there are ALOT of unsecured wifi networks around that you can hook into. Now, as far as battery life, it's actually much better than I had imagined. I use mine moderately during the day and I can probably go 3 days without having to recharge. If you were to watch movies back to back (like on a plane) you'd probably get maybe 6 good hours from a full charge. But making a decent amount of calls, surfing the internet, using google maps, checking e-mail, checking stocks and weather, and listening to some tunes throughout the day (not non-stop of course) you can probably get a solid 2-3 days before having to plug in for a charge.
BTW...Google maps is so sweet! You'll never get lost again. My parents took a trip to New Zealand last year and came to visit over Xmas. We were looking at all the places they went in New Zealand on my iPhone. With satellite images! My mom was floored.

I think 17th Hole has it right. If you can watch youtube video then its fast enough. I don't think that Jobs is going to let an iphone out with bad battery life. He'll hold production up on the new one until they get decent battery life. June.
Meanwhile, what do you iphone uses do about dropping phones? My burly blackberry has been dropped at least three times. I imagine that cases are pretty important?

Rick, there are alot of cases available for the iPhone, although it's so slim and it fits in my front pocket so well that I passed on a case. I haven't dropped my iPhone yet but it is a bit "slippery" and has almost fallen a few times. The glass screen is very durable and doesn't scratch at all, nor does the back.
On a side note, before I got the iPhone, I was considering buying a laptop to do some of the usual stuff a laptop is good for (checking e-mail and stuff while on the road). However, the iPhone is like having a super ultraportable laptop. My wife got a new Blackberry that she got through work about the same time I got my iPhone. She was pretty excited because she's never had a smart phone. Once she saw all the cool things I can do with my iPhone, she now hates her Blackberry.

The iPhone reeaaalllly doesn't like it when you catch the headphone cord with your arm and jerk it off onto a treadmill belt which might then fling it forcefully into the wall behind you......not that I know this from personal experience or anything.....RickG wrote:Meanwhile, what do you iphone uses do about dropping phones? But if I HAD done something like that, hypothetically speaking of course, I imagine that Apple might have sent me a new one for free.....
