Sandy,

I'm working on a project right at the base of the mountain and we have been getting dumped on lately. There will still be plenty of good snow in April. It is best to wait until mid-morning before taking your first run as the slopes ice up overnight and you want to wait until the snow softens up.

As it is in the islands, make sure you lather on the sunscreen to keep from getting fried. There will be days when you can ski without a jacket. Lift lines will be short and the slopes shouldn't be crowded.
It's a great time of year to be in Vail.

Have a great time

I'm not sure how I missed this, but I agree with those who said you picked a great year to go on a Spring ski trip. We're getting great snow and I think it will be fine in April, too. As was also said, bring the sunscreen and remember to hydrate. :)

Enjoy Vail- Blue Sky basin is one of my favorite places in the world.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm really looking forward to this. We got lucky, My husband is in the Cable TV business and they are having an event there the first week of April. I'm tagging along so I can ski. I'll be making two trips to Colorado this year, I'll be going to the Democratic Convention in Denver in August.
I'm already packing for this trip, just got two new ski jackets and pants. Hopefully I'll get more practice before going. It is 70 degrees today in DC area. Hopfully it will get cold again soon. I think I'm the only one who wants it to snow!
