Google Earth your Villas!
Hey Jo Ann,Jo Ann - VA wrote:2 Cat Limit - are you looking at this? I know you have done something similiar. You are a great source of info on villas and villa locations.
Are you there?????
Jo Ann
Thanks for thinking of me.

Sorry I'm late jumping in. My husband was out of town with the only computer all week

I'd love to be able to share what I've mapped. I've got a bunch of them, especially Contant, Great Cruz Bay, Chocolate Hole (water and hillside), and Devers and Rendezvous Bays.
I'm not at all techno-savvy but I'll try anything anybody can walk me through.
Hey Maryanne and Sherban,
In the photo sherban posted, look at the title "Mango Bay Villa". At the top of the "B" in Bay, a driveway angles up and to the left. I believe that house is La Jolla Caribe.
Just to the left of it is a grey roof somewhat obscured by the trees. That should be Cinnamon Stones.
Maryanne,
Please, please let us know how it is. That's the first villa I fell in love with from the pictures. It's always been out of our budget range since it's usually just two of us, but one of these days.

Also, just FYI, below the title "Island Sun" is Orchid Court and on the other side of the tennis court, the smaller building is Orchid Cottage.
On the other side of the road, below "Tarn" of "Cinnamon Tarn" is a private home named Cinnamon Day Dreams which is on the market.
I think Peace and Plenty and then Hakuna Matata are below and to the right of "Anole Villa".
And F My I, does anyone know the name of the villa to the right of La Jolla Caribe? It has a strange round thing in the middle of it.
I'm also looking to pin down Jungle Stone, Great Escape and one possibly named Valentine. They should all be in this area.
Thanks for any help.
Anyone looking for a specific villa, let me know. If I've found it, I can describe it or give the coordinates. I don't have Coral Bay area yet, mostly South Shore and North Shore.
Oh, and Sherban,
Can you tell me how to post a snapshot like you did here? Please go slowly and use small words and maybe I'll get it.

Thanks.
Hope any of this helps.

Posting Google screenshots
Hey 2Cat, Glad to hear you are interested in trying to share some location info, thanks. We'll go slow and take it a step at a time, maybe others will join in who know better/other ways to do this...
Google Earth Photo sharing- Here's how I did it:
1) Put my placemarks/pushpins on "my places" on Google Earth on my computer.
2) Adjust the view to include what I want to share, then press then print screen key on my keyboard to capture the image, then open MS paint and click "paste" to dump that image into paint so I can edit and save it. Then I usually adjust the size of the image (using image stretch/skew)to be < ~600 pixels wide so it doesn't mess up the page display by beeing too wide.
3)Then I save the image to my hard-drive as a jpeg.
4) Then I upload the image on photobuket dot com (free) so I can link to it on the board. Once your image is on photobucket you can copy and paste the "IMG code" link into your board post and you're done! {it isn't as bad as it sounds, after you get it once it becomes a breeze...really).
Hints- I think image links don't work on the board sometimes because the "IMG code" doesn't get copied and pasted from photobucket correctly, you need to make sure that the IMG code starts with ...PM me with any questions or email me.
Sharing Google places- let's talk about this next, it is easier than posting photos IMHO.
Cheers-

Sherban,
La Jolla Caribe is the one above the one you marked, just to the right of Cinnamon Stones. It has no pool.
Other than that, yep, looks right. I think Peace and Plenty is between Anole and Hakuna Matata. It may be that unfinished one or not showing as built yet.
I try to mark the private homes if I can as well for a frame of reference and so that I don't mistake them when I'm trying to identify another villa. Like a place marker saying this one can't be the rental you're looking for.
This is going to be fun. I'll try posting the picture thing later this weekend and see if I can.
Have a good day.

Hey Sherban,
I didn't catch the one you marked as private was incorrect. It's the one to the left of Orchid Court and it's name is Cinnamon Day Dreams.
I also check the Real Estate MLS listings because they show private homes as well as rentals and some sites tell you the lot number or address.
This helps identify things that are next to or near each other.
That's been most helpful in the Great Cruz Bay and Maria Bluff area.
i haven't tried the snapshot thing yet but plan to this weekend.
Thanks again.

I also use www.maps.live.com as another reference.
Its resolution is not as good but the photos were taken at a different time and don't have the same cloud cover.

2CAT- Have you tried this "multi-map" link that jmq posted? It is pretty cool, it allows you to switch photos on the fly...good for trying to get around cloud cover...as you mentioned...jmq wrote:There is also this multi-map link I posted a month or so ago.

Google earth your Villas
On your Catherineberg map, Great Escape is the villa with the pool that is right next to the u in Le Chateau. We stayed there when it was "Highpoint".
Valentine, is the villa with what appears to be the wedge-shaped pool just above the 0 in Mango Bay. We stayed there in 2000, just before it closed to private ownership. The house wasnt much to speak of but "oh what a view". I am just looking over my shoulder at a family picture taken of us in and around the pool on Election day 2000.
When we were down at Candie's last week, I was chatting with Elvis about all the Catherineberg Villas and he confirmed that Valentine is still privately owned.
Jungle Stone is still furthur down the hill, so that might be the one at the top of you page. That house was no great shakes either but boy look at it now.

updated again :-)
Knolmom- Thanks I updated great escape and the one that is private now. I did not update anything on jungle stones because the Google pic does not correlate with the rental photos, it may not have been built when the Google photo was taken...(I always try to cross reference and verify before posting a location).
