Magazines, especially one that's high-quality (and this one seems to be high-quality) are expensive to produce. And with niche markets, they're even more expensive because you don't get the quantity you would if you printed Sports Illustrated, for example.
I'd be willing to pay $10 for a high-quality magazine, especially if it didn't have ads (ads subsidize the printing costs), but $20 for a magazine seems to be ridiculous, even for a professional journal of some sort. (Although some of them are a lot more than $20.)

I wonder when the price changed? I would have paid $20 for 2 issues, but $40 seems way steep. I'm going to let somebody else buy it and tell me whether it is worth it.
I think I read somewhere that Caneel is going to be putting the magazine in their guest rooms. It would be better than what they have now—a magazine called something like “Elite Private Jet Traveler.” Now that’s DEFINITELY a niche that I don't fit into!!

That must be a typo on the web site, because the cost is indeed $20 per year (two issues). If you buy it on newsstands, I believe it's $7. I may be a little biased, but I think it's totally worth it. I've read and reread my copy several times and it's now on display on our coffee table.

The media kit says it will be available on newsstands throughout the U.S. & British Virgin Islands....so if it's only available on the islands at a lower rate, I'll wait & look at a copy when we get there to see if I'll pay the "island price". Definately not gonna pay $40.00 for 2 issues. I understand about printing quality magazines; that's too bad it's so expensive for a subscription. It's knocked out alot of orders they could have had otherwise, IMHO for what sounds like a great magazine.

I'd be willing to pay $10 each, just not $20.

I just emailed MaLinda and pointed her to this thread...hopefully she'll clear up the confusion and let us know if the $40 price is a typo like Andrea said

Sorry, I have been busy for a few days and haven't been here much.
Liamsaunt - At this point we have not been approached about selling this magazine. Not sure what the distribution strategy is. I would recommend subscribing if the price is right.
SRT- The Skinny Legs photo in the magazine does not look like the group you describe. Sorry!
Andrea - Do you still work for the Tradewinds? I hope you can get to the bottom of the pricing issue. I'd like to see this magazine do well, I know a lot of effort has been invested in it.

I saw it yesterday and it said $7. Way too cheap for the quality of the magazine.

Ruth, yes I am still here at the newspaper and I'm a proud contributor to the magazine as well! I will look into the mistake on the web site, because subscriptions are indeed $20 per year (that's $10 per issue) -- well worth the cost.
*edited to add the subscription cost may have been raised without me knowing it...will know for sure on Monday.

Thank you Ruth for answering my question. I don't blame them for not printing our picture. We didn't look like an elite group.
My kids and grandkids are still talking about how great the trip was this summer. They want me to take them all back, but taking ten people to St. John was a "once". My husband and I will be returning alone next summer!!

MaLinda called today and we will be carrying this magazine at St. John Spice.
