What does your significant other say about:
See Chip's answer below:
- the amount of time you spend here? He said "24 hours a day?"
- the frequency that you visit? He said "Constantly"
- you referrring to other members of the forum like you 'really' know them?
He said " You don't know them?"
- the number of times you look at the web cam?
He said "How many times does 20 seconds go into 24 hours"
- all of your knowledge of current events on an island many miles away? He said "Doesn't everyone?"
He gets it!

LOL! My hubby gets STJ but doesn't get the forum thing. Oh well, his loss, at least he gets STJ. He talks alot about getting his captain's license and doing some sailing in the VI's & BVI's. Now who can argue with that. He's a keeper. Ali~

My husband asks why I continue to torture myself...since we are trying to move from NJ to FL, a trip to St. John isn't in the near future - plus we have to visit his family in Portugal before we go anywhere else...

Otherwise, he pretty much does the same thing as most - rolls his eyes, shakes his head. Between you and I, I think he is a secret lurker

My husband thinks I'm addicted, but is totally used to it by now. He does like how I get information that we may need from the forums. He has recently become addicted to the On St John web site and thinks he is going to "one up me" by knowing the current events

.
We have met a few people from the forums and he likes doing that now too. I think he thought it was a little "different" at first.

My Hubby says, "Are you still watching the sunset on St. John again?? Good thing he does not know about the website that shows the last 24 hours of the webcam!
Glad to say we will be back on island in just one month and thanks to the wonderful info posted here, our trip should run soooooo smooothly!!
I plan to write a cool message in the sand which will drive my family crazy wondering what the H_LL I am doing!!
I get it.....

My husband either shakes his head and smiles or shakes his head and rolls his eyes. He loves that I get alot of info before a trip (haven't even been to STJ yet!) but I think he thinks it's alittle odd when I start checking out villas or islands that other people mention, that aren't even in our plans. I know he gets skeptical when I start talking about all the future vacations I'm thinking about: he'll catch me checking flights to Belize or Honduras, and smile alittle when I rave about a place where you have to kayak 3 hours just to get to the lodge. I joke that that's why I work -- to finance my vacation jones -- and he'll remind me of this little thing we have called a business loan. (We own a business... or rather the bank does.) But so far he hasn't ever complained when I hit that "confirm" button on the "book a flight" web page!
Once when my kids came by my desk and I was on the forum, one of them asked "Are you doing that thing where you talk to people you don't know, who like St. John?" Yup, that's what I'm doing!

Good Question!! I have enjoyed reading all the responses. Hubby and I are sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee so I read him the question. Here's his response.
the amount of time you spend here?
He thinks it's good because I'm spending time doing something I enjoy.
- the frequency that you visit?
He just laughs
- you referrring to other members of the forum like you 'really' know them.
Here's a quote "Yeah, but I've met a lot of them too. Hell, we have plenty of new friends!!
"
- the number of times you look at the web cam?
"oh man, a lot more than I get to"
- all of your knowledge of current events on an island many miles away?
"Excellent"
By the way, my husband is BEYOND getting it. It's getting harder and harder to keep him from packing us up and moving down. Oh, and wow..........he is a keeper!!!! 32 years and lots more to come!

My wife does not spend much time on the computer, so she really cannot understand the forum, although she loved St. John and definitely "gets it".
She did raise her eyebrows, however, when I told her we would be attending the forum gathering at the Banana Deck a few weeks back. She could not understand why we wanted to spend our limited time on St. John with 'strangers'.
We did though, and that was one of the things she loved about our trip. We were able to meet Sea-Nile, Bert, Ron from South Texas, and we had a nice long visit with Ruth after everyone else had to go eat. Ruth just has some great stories to tell! Then we had a nice visit with Pia at the airport on our way out. Strangers no more
This forum is great!

I'm lucky, too. Before my husband got sick, he traveled a lot with his job - he's a golf professional so he did a lot of traveling and playing, taking members on golf trips while I stayed home. Now he says, it's my turn. He's not a beach lover so he loves it that I've found people who love to travel to the island with me and he doesn't have to go. He just laughs about my new group of friends, the "SOBT" gals, but can't wait to hear the stories.

What does your significant other say about:
-
the amount of time you spend here? He does not read the forum at all (he hasn't even read my trip report!). At first he thought it was kind of weird, but he got over it. We talk about St. John all of the time anway, so now I incorporate "forum stories" into our conversation.
-
the frequency that you visit? He loves St. John just as much as me, and we are already planning the next trip. He said that this year it was actually painful to leave St. John. That's the first time he felt that way.
- you referrring to other members of the forum like you 'really' know them? He's fine with it. He will often ask, what does the forum think about...even though he does not read here, he knows some of the forum people's names--mostly from looking at their St. John pictures on flickr.
- the number of times you look at the web cam? It's funny, I usually forget about the web cam. The only time I look at it is when someone posts about it on the forum.
-
all of your knowledge of current events on an island many miles away? Again, it seems totally normal to him. We are obsessed, what can I say?

Let's see.....
- the amount of time you spend here? Doesn't really bother him. He usually just sits with me and want me to update him on the forum current events.
- the frequency that you visit? See question 1
- you referrring to other members of the forum like you 'really' know them? After our Beach Bar meeting in April, he now refers to other members as his friends too
- the number of times you look at the web cam? I don't really look at the webcam unless someone posts about it.
- all of your knowledge of current events on an island many miles away?[/color] He loves that I keep him updated too!
My hunny total "gets" STJ and would be on this forum too if he could figure out how to use the computer!!!!
XOXO
