8 days with carry-on luggage only?!

We usually always check a bag just so we can bring sunscreen and snacks and have of course brought the cooler as a carry on...This past trip we each did a backpack and a shopping bag for 11 days ( Duane Reade urban luggage bag)...we bought travel fins while we were there and managed to get them back just fine..I had packed an extra shopping bag. Believe it or not..I had one set of clothes I had not even worn...we did laundry 1 time while we were there...I may never check a bag again...it was much easier having everything when we got off the plane..and not alot to lug around..
