Trip Report: October 8 - 16, 2013

Cindygad,

We both have a pair of hiking sandals (Tevas) that we wear when hiking. We will normally take one of our snorkel gear bags when we hike to Blue Cobblestone and then put our sandals in it for the snorkel back. My wife is very strong swimmer. I have accused her of being part fish and our friends that were in STJ with us in May starting calling her "Evinrude", because they thought she had an outboard motor attached to her fins. I say all that to say she will carry the snorkel bag as we snorkel back to Salt Pond Bay. I would caution that this snorkel should only be attempted on calm days, and yes, I speak from experience.

We typically have better luck with Haulover North early in the day. It seems like it starts getting choppy around 10:00 or 10:30 a lot of the time. We were able to snorkel there 4 times when we were on the island in May, but when talking to some of the folks that are there all the time, it sounds like it is kind of hit and miss on how choppy it is. We have never been in Jan, but I have read that some of the North Shore Beaches can be a little choppier during the winter months, so Haulover North may be rough a lot during that time frame.

If you like wings, try the Sweet Chili Wings at Spyglass. They are awesome. I can easily make a meal on those and the fish tacos. They, also, have Habanero Sweet Chili Wings, but they are about the only wings I haven't tried there.
