I've heard from reliable sources that there hasn't been one substantiated report of any tourists over 120lbs. have been carried away by the skeeters.
as the the scorpion, I.m married to one, and their bite is worse then their bark.

Seriously, the bite is no worse then a bee sting from that frightful looking beast.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.

Thanks for the good tips, we'll take extra bug spray this time, just in case!

The raquet bug zapper thing is something we'll have to get! That and a case of batteries, Mike will think it's a new toy!

We've seen scorpions in our villa twice now, they really give me the creeps!! Both times they were in the shower, and they were small.

Ok, I went outside and took a picture of the bug zapper. Mine is 18" x 6.25". I seriously doubt it would work on a scorpion and I would really hate to smell that one!! Eeewwuu! But it works great on mosquitos and that was my only target. We'll test it on flies this summer (we live by two horse stables) and I'll report back - LOL!

P.S. wishwewerethere - I love the "Clash of the Titans" remark! What a great description to use! Laughing out loud here!

Cool racket, I guess that would be a new seasonal sport on da ilon, 'skeeter slammin'
We also had trouble with those suckers (pun intended) in our Jeep.

Kellyanna, one morning as we opened the front door of our villa loaded down with beach gear, a scorpion came scampering in and across the living room floor. They actually run sideways.
Good thing DH, aka scorpion slayer, was there to save my life.

I have found scorpions like nylon for some strange reason. Good idea, to leave those fancy nightgowns at home and go for the cooler all cotton. Mosquitos like dark colors and perfume. A man I know who has lived in Stj forever says, "if you drink scotch the mosquitos will not bite." Maybe, however I have never tried it as I hate scotch! :?
Peace,

Love, love, love our racquet's :)
We have 5 of them - one for the deck, one for the bathroom, one for the bedroom and two in the living room as when you see it you need to zap it :)
Nothing like the smell of burning skeeter :)

I wonder if a racket will pass the TSA inspection...

We rented a villa that had two of those zappers. The first night, the two late-30s hubs were shocking each other with them. (yes, booze was involved)

Later in the week, the maintenance man was at the house and said he is instructed to remove the zappers when children will be included in a rental party because "you know, dumb kids will zap each other."

We took the batteries out (just in case the button might get pushed by something pressing against it in the suitcase) and put it in my husband's suitcase and there was no problem. We had TSA inspection notices in our luggage when we got home, so I know they saw it, but apparently they didn't see it as a threat. I REALLY recommend taking the batteries out, though.

We're doing (all) carry-ons... I was wondering about TSA too... especially since we're not checking any bags. :?

I really don't know why the TSA would have a problem with the zapper as long as it doesn't have any batteries in it. You can't stab anyone with it and if you used it as a "club" it would just be laughable. But who knows? All you can do is try and if they take it away, then invest another $15.00 in a new one at the end of your flight. Like I said, next to the Benedryl cream, it may be one of the best purchases we made!

I sure hope TSA wouldn't object to those, I may go to Bed, Bath & Beyond today and see if I can pick up a couple!

Our gang will have two vehicles so I guess we'll want want for each. PA Girl, I can imagine the guys in my group doing the same thing. There are 3 of them, maybe I should buy 3... Ugh.

Jan - Check out Tracy in WI's thread under "Another Mosquito Related Question". Good "anti-itch" discussion going on there! :)

Just have to add my 2 cents!

No bugs, skeeters, scorpions, or anything on the water. I think the key is to charter!!!!!!!

My comment on the racket zappers is........ they are the best. I have about 8, and we use them to kill house flies on our deck in the summer. They work great and are also great entertainment for guests at a party.
