What do you with your items when snorkeling on the beach?
Re: What do you with your items when snorkeling on the beach
Hubby has a waterproof pouch that fits around the waist like a fanny pack. It is small and flat. Holds license, keys, a little money (good for holding passports as well) and a few others small things if needed. He says that he can't even tell it's there when in water. Works great for us. Just to take extra precautions we put everything in a small ziplock bag then in the pouch. Never had any problems...and gives us peace of mind. Oh yeah...he just slips it under the top of his waist band on swim trunks just in case it was to come unsnapped...it wouldn't float away. Mannnn...we gave this more thought than I realized until now !!

We use a small plastic waterproof container that fits in my board shorts pocket. It is large enough for keys, a credit card and some cash. Wallets and cell phones we lock in the center console in the jeep. The waterproof container is waterproof and can be found in various sizes in most outdoor stores. It also has a neck strap if there is no pocket available.
Its been a hell of a ride, destination still unknown!

we have a waterproof pouch for keys, cc's, $$ etc. if someone is nearby we'll ask them if they'll watch our things. if nobody is around then all we leave behind is sandals, towels and the neat sheet. i've been out in the water and looked up to see people rummaging around our site. sadly, you can't trust that no one will swipe your stuff. always error on the side of caution....

We use the CamSafe 200 by PacSafe:

It holds our camera, lens, camcorder, wallet, and keys. It has a combination lock to secure the strap to the bag and to keep the compartment zippers locked. It has a steel wire running through the strap as well as wire mesh built into the bag's fabric.
Have fun on your first visit!

Re: What do you with your items when snorkeling on the beach
Our biggest concern was the car keys. Locking wallets in the jeep obviously isn't going to help if you leave your key where someone can find it. Our key had a big sticker on it reading *$300* as a reminder of all the dire warnings in their contract about lost or damaged keys, so we were too paranoid to try taking it into the water in a case that might leak. So we ended up hiding "the $300 key" under a rock or in a hollow tree. I thought it was a little silly on a beach like Grootpan, where we never saw a single other person EVER, but my husband enjoyed the key-hiding ritual so we did it every time.
I could say that this worked great because nobody ever stole our jeep, but I suspect no one would have stolen it no matter where we left the key.
