I have found the off-island CV office to be abrupt and less than friendly on more than a few occasions. In fact, this last trip, the rep I was emailing was downright rude. The on-island staff is wonderful though and that is what conflicts me about renting from them again. That, and the fact that they have some houses that I really like.

The issue of changing prices is the same as if you bought a plane ticket 3 months ago, vs. 6 weeks before your trip. The price of the ticket is the price of the ticket at the time you bought the ticket. The price of the rental is the price of the rental at the time you bought the rental. Airlines do not honor requests for price adjustments, and neither would a rental. Just my 2 cents.

There are a few places that I'd like to rent from that as well but I hesitate. Over the years have just heard mostly negatives about this rental agency.
I do wonder though, what if I rented the house I wanted through an agency like Villa Fish. Do I then deal with Villa Fish who in turn has to deal with CV? I recall seeing one house I was interested in on VF site. The fees were the same but I'm just wondering if the relationship would be better?

We rented through Villa Fish and had a wonderful experience.
That is the route that I plan on taking in the future when possible.

We rented through Villa Fish for our upcoming trip. I started our search with an agency we used several times in past (and always were happy with) but they just weren't answering my questions. I was a little put off by their lack of response/interest so I put in a request on the Villa Fish site.

Villa Fish got back to me right away. I developed an nice back and forth with Jack and he gave me a bunch of options (including villas I hadn't considered). His responses to my questions were detailed and added on (fair and balanced) opinions on pros and cons of certain villas.

I agree that you should not expect them to lower the price. When you booked it you were ok with that price. Because you booked early you got the dates you wanted. I never look at the villa site prices after I have decided to book. That way I can't be upset if something like this happens.

You will enjoy the trip and if $200 is that big of an issue eat home one or 2 nights and you will save that easily depending on the size of your family.

Breathe! Look at the bright side. You are going to a very magical place where stress is not allowed! You are going to have a wonderful trip!!!!

While i can understand that the discount is for new bookings, I still think they should do something for you. How about asking them for a dinner voucher? Groceries? Cooler of beer, rum, soda? I think they should do something because they have had your money to spend/invest as they wish for a few months. Call back and try again...;-)

I think it never hurts to ask, because sometimes you can get the new discounted price. But I also understand them not wanting to give you the discount if you already signed the contract at the agreed price and paid in full. If I bought something at a retail store and a couple of weeks later they put the same item on sale, I doubt if they'd refund the difference between what I paid two weeks earlier and the new sale price.
