Also in Sarasota is Mote Marine Aquarium, which is nice, and they do explorer trips and kayaking trips with really well informed guides, Ringling Brothers Museum, Salvadore Dali Museum, Myakka River. It's a beautiful, safe, fun place.
The shelling is nowhere near as great as Sanibel.
We did some pretty cool self-guided kayaks trips as well. If you end up going there, I can give you some hints.
In Tampa, there's a terrific steak house called Bern's that you should consider if you go there.

Maybe this link can help you with some suggestions: Florida Travel & Life Magazine http://www.floridatravellife.com/
Thanks again! So many choices. We'll look in to these suggestions. Appreciate them. All those things are just what we like, biking, being outdoors, hiking, nature walks, birds, Aquariums, good food and some shopping.
And B&J VA, I know we've met

Look at Boca Grande
Its South of Sarasota but North of Ft.Myers
