We have been doing carry on for many years. It is easy when you have been someplace so many times that you know exactly what you will need. No guessing.

I guess for first timers they are not sure what they will need and wind up packing a big suitcase. Most of the stuff they brought gets brought home not even worn. Thats really how we learned over the years.
I also have a drawer that I keep sample sizes of shampoo, etc and just throw them into the zip lock bags.

Bathing suits, flip flops, shorts,a few tees and we are good to go. Even have room for snorkel gear and fins.

I send a box down with books, sunscreen, bug spray etc. and we each take a carry on and a frozen food bag and we are good to go.
We hit STT grab our bags and head to Rachels van, no waiting for our bags or worrying if they got lost.

I know my husband hopes to be able to do this. We are going the first of May. We are staying in Coral Bay pretty high up. I am thinking at night I might need sweat pants. Haven't been before so I am unsure. Also, we will be there for our Anniversary. Have no picked out a restaurant yet but was wondering if we would need to pack one nice somewhat dress outfit?

My wife and I will be wearing our sweets with shorts under and tennis shoes on the flight. As far as a nice dress my wife has bought two dresses that are very nice looking and roll up very small. She purchesed them at Athleta.com

Trying to convince our party of 5 adults to go carry on only for our next trip. Anyone with recommendations for good carryon suitcases? Thinking about making it everyone's Christmas present. Thanks!

I do! We love Ricardo Beverly Hills Carry Ons. Bought them from Kohl's. Last year we gave them as gifts because we have loved them so much. They have a patented 2 compartment system. So you have 2 exterior zipper compartments and 2 interior. You can either expand the 2 into one large if you prefer or use them separate. What we do is put our pants and havier items in the bottom compartment and then our shirts and blouses in the top. Really has cut down on wrinkles for us. I am posting a link that is similar to the ones that we have. Ours is a solid material in between not netted as in this photo. We like them so much I just went and bought one that has the spinner wheels that is larger for our trip to Dinsey in the winter. We will need clothes for every season then. Kohls has great prices on them. Our original ones are at least 4 to 6 years old now.

Thanks Momto3boys! Looks great.
I considered one that has a backpack that zippers onto the suitcase so you can detach to carry on and zipper on to roll out of the airport. Anyone ever use something like that?

I have never seen one like that but we take a backpack along too. I take a small purse that fits into the backpack and use the backback as my personal item. Then for getting through the airport and such I put the the backback straps over the luggage handles and pull it that way when I don't want it on my back. We usually have a backpack filled with stuff for DS wherever we travel. This trip we can fill it with snacks maybe since it is our anniversary trip and we are traveling alone.

HoosierDaddy, My Husband is laughing at me.
He does not believe that I am going to be able to pull off just a carry-on for this trip. You have and the others have inspired me. I think this trip will be easier than most that we go on since you don't need clothes for all kinds of different temp variations.

You can do it. Just pack the things you think you need. If you don't have room then start removing things you really don't need until you can close your suitcase.

We bought Deep Woods Off in wipes and they work fine. We use carry on only and still come home with alot of clothes we didin't even wear. I go very light on shoes, 1 dressy sandal, I wear flip flops and pack 1 pair and pack sneakers. 2 Sundresses should suit your needs for going out to dinner, a couple of pairs of shorts and t shirts, swimsuits and coverups and a pair of pjs. I also have a sunhat that folds flat. We fill a 3 oz bottle with sunscreen and buy more when we get there. No wait and no lost luggage is priceless! We have Samsonite spinners which are really easy to wheel around and we bring 1 backpack. We just returned from Mexico and I washed my travel/summer clothes and repacked them in our suitcase for our Feb trip to Turks and Caicos, I make a list of what I still need to pack and leave inside suitcase. We travel alot and keep a toiletry bag packed and restock as needed.

we just returned from 2 weeks and did carry on only including full snorkel gear for 2 and a Polar bear cooler filled with meat etc. I had one dress. I wear yoga pants on the plane with a long sleeve t shirt with my hiking sandals. It is definitely doable and we love traveling this way now! we use backpack type suitcases for clothes. good luck and have a blast! :)

I go really light on the shoes and have not had a problem at all...I wear my keens, Take a dressy pair of flip flops, and possibly a pair of tennis shoes (we are not warm weather hikers, so the keens are usually plenty). Of course we do not usually go to the really high end resturants. I do like the idea of off wipes!
