In January, we rented a jeep for one day. With taxes, it cost $102.15. For that amount, six people can take the taxi to a North Shore beach and back. And still have a few bucks left over to give the driver a tip.

Also, if staying in Cruz Bay, remember that Honeymoon and Salomon beaches are only a 30-minute hike away.

But if you rent for an entire week, you get a better rate ($75 a day) and we seldom just drive to the NS and back. I fill up my days with lots of stuff, so not having a car is not an option for me and many vacationers
