Yes, Happy Vacation, Minde. It would be great if you could give us some live reports from your iPad. My days on the Virgin Islands are nearing and I can't help being anxious. Try not to miss Gibney if you can. Enjoy!

Weather is beautiful. Not too hot. I'm not good with the iPad typing, sorry! Candi has a new jerk sauce thats spicy and delicious. Rib dinner was great! Going to look for prescription snorkel mask today then Francis and maybe Cinnamon Bay to hear Inner Visions! Thanks for the heads' up, Ruth!

If my iPad typing was better, and I could edit and post pics, I'd do a live trip report. I'll share highlights, though :)
The dive shop at the lumberyard was open at 8am on Easter (!) and we got my prescription snorkel mask. No prescription needed-they handed me their strongest and it worked great! Picked up lunch at Deli Grotto and were at Francis by 8:30. No cars on the Northshore Rd to speak of. Easter rock was not wet-we looked! think we waved to Les and two pups on the way!
We saw a BIG barracuda just offshore, and when I was in alone, I finally got to see an Eagle Ray!!! It, too, was very big and beautiful, and I can't wait to see my pic on our computer! It was a lovely day of floating and reading and eating and hanging with my best friend :)
Just finished dinner (spiedies and macaroni salad) and we're relaxing and reading and sooooooo happy! This third trip is so different. We're so much less in a hurry to see everything, and just savoring every moment. We are comfortable and have a feel (and a deep love) for this rock.
Sigh...
This SO makes up for the last stressful 6 months.
Thank you, God, for St. John, and thank you forum, for guiding us around it!

Explain to everyone what spiedies are!

Post by inuny »

Hi Minde-I'm glad your prescription mask is working well. You had spiedies for dinner-I'm surprised no one has asked what they are. For those not from upstate NY, Here's wikipedia's definition:

The spiedie (pronounced /ˈspiːdi/ "speedy") is a dish local to Greater Binghamton in the Southern Tier of New York State, and somewhat more broadly known and enjoyed throughout Central New York state.[1] Spiedie consists of cubes of chicken, pork, lamb, veal, venison or beef. The meat cubes are marinated overnight or longer (sometimes for as long as two weeks under a controlled environment) in a special marinade, then grilled on spits (if steel skewers are used, they are called "spiedie rods") over a charcoal pit.

Enjoy your trip
