Well, I finally spilled the beans over the weekend. And I only had to make it 7 more months. Ha Ha. Logistics were getting too difficult without including her in the planning, and we were at dinner with the one other couple who is definitely in. Timing was good, she was excited.
Airfare sucks, but by including her in the planning she can arrange her work schedule so that we can pick the low-cost days. So that'll help. It may be a little more of a budget trip than I had hoped but it'll still be great.
I feel good about our travelling companions. They've been before and love it. The guy is my former college roommate, and his wife was actually in our wedding so we've known each other for a long time.
Still nothing firm other than the BVI trip on her 50th birthday.

Don't worry, it is still a surprise that you thought of it. That is so exciting. I am taking hubby down in August for a surprise 40th birthday trip. So far I have been quiet, but I am more concerned about other family members spilling the beans.
I guess part of the excitement of going to STJ is the trip planning and watching the days tick down. Good luck and have fun!

Starting to get real now! Booked Casa del Sol (pending me getting a check in the mail!)
The place looks great and has introductory rates for 2011 since it is new on the rental market this year.

Two other couples confirmed and another is a possibility. Works great as this place has 4 equal bedrooms. ONLY downside to adding another couple is the limit of 6 persons on Capt. John's trips. We can work around that though.
Airfare is not horrible so I may go ahead book that as well. Gonna be a good birthday for her. And me too.

Really getting excited now, put the final payment for the villa in the mail tonight!
I really like RickG's tips on travelling with others. This may be the last time I try something like this.
One of the other couples has had to back out because of job loss. Feel terrible for them because they were really excited. So it's just the four of us, two couples. Will make some things easier, like deciding on which beach or restaurant to hit each day. But we will miss them.
Ended up paying $448/pp for airfare nonstop from ATL. Offset part of it with miles. Not the best deal ever but it didn't look like prices were coming down so I just went ahead and got it out of the way.
A couple of months ago I saw an SUV with S. Carolina plates sporting a "Soggy Dollar" license plate frame. Couldn't get their attention to wave as I went by though. Then a couple of weeks ago I saw a lady jogging wearing a "Beach Bar" t-shirt. Little unexpected reminders of the trip are fun!
My list of things I want to do on this trip is already longer than we'll have time for. So, I'm thinking I need to go ahead and get started planning another trip for just the two of us next spring.
Told my wife all I want for Christmas this year is a shirt from Sloop Jones and a Steve Simonsen calendar. So that's on our list of things to do. And maybe some of the local rum that's not available here. Other than that little bit of shopping we're gonna do the boat day with Captain John, and that's all the planning so far. Hope to do a dinghy day and also visit some of the Coral Bay hot spots. Plan to snorkel and visit at least one beach each day. Oh and drink a lot. Also would like to enjoy the nice villa for a while.
OK, mainly just posting because I'm getting excited. So I'll quit rambling now.

one thing my hubby, Augie, did to surprise me one year was he collected a bunch of family and friends well wishes via video/audio and spliced it all together into a VHS tape (HAHA) and surprised me with it the morning of my birthday. you could compile a DVD since most of the villa have DVD players available or most folks could probably send you clips via computer in this day of technology!!!
what a great gift you are giving her!!!
