For all you girls that get eaten but the bugs like me, a local told me to use Irish Spring soap to cut down on the bug bites. I tried it and it actually works.

Also, I found a bug spray while on St. John that I swear by...Shaz's Natural Outdoor Lotion. She also makes a sunburn no-peal and itch poultice. I have used all of it and it's really amazing. I always purchased it from Ruth at St. John Spice. Ruth, do you still sell it?

Other than Irish Spring, Sun-Tan Lotion, and Shaz's Bug Spray I stay away from anything else or I face the millions of bugs just waiting for me;)

Jorge - what ARE we going to do with you? :D

LysaC - I reserve certain "smells" for STJ too because I like them to remind me of it! I feel less weird since someone else does it too.

Flip-Flop - I have to try the Bobbi Brown oil now. That sounds too good. And I LOVE the John Frieda Cool Dip shampoo and condition - it's another one of my faves. There used to be a product in that line that was a leave-in oil that smelled very coconutty and had "beach" in the name. It was great protection for hair, but I've never found it again. I think they stopped making it.

You guys have given me some suggestions for some new products to try. Yay! Something else to do in the 8 LOOOOOONG weeks until my toes are in the sand!

Jorge - shame on you :D

OK girls, I have some great sunblocks and one of my new favourites is by Colorescience - here is the link.

Dermstore has some fabulous products from all the high end companies (it's great for me as they ship to STJ :D ) and if you add products to your "favourites" you automatically get a discount - just check out all of the products - amazing :D

Oh - and thanks for all of your ideas I am going to check them out when I am back "Stateside" in April :D

I was/am an independent consultant for Arbonne so I bring the travel kit with all the face and body stuff in it and their make-up. I love their Unwind Sea salt scrub (the smell is intoxicating). I have to bring hair detangler too (like the VO5 spray stuff). I did not bring conditioner on our 2005 trip and I could not brush my hair. Had to buy some at the hotel gift shop. I also like to wear certain scents on very special occassions. I like New West and Encounter by Victoria's Secret. Encounter has been discontinued for a while but I found it on E-bay. E-bay is a lifesaver for that crap :D When that runs out I swear I am going to send away for it to be made. I like Hawaiian tropic sunscreens because I like the smell. Any coconut shampoo or the Aussie Mega shampoo which smells like candy. Screw the bugs. They are going to bite me anyway I might as well smell nice. And then all the rest of the stuff like q-tips, cotton balls, tweezers, nail clippers, all that tra la la. I cannot ever be a carry-on person, not ever! 3ozs-are you freakin kiddin me?

All right. MrB is not saying all that stuff. That was me. Ha ha ha. Serves him right for not logging out and trying to plot my demise in another thread

I love people like you! I never seem to be the one who gets skeeter bites. I always tell folks to leave ALL of the smelly stuff at home.

I love this Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock, SPF 45 or SPF 30. It goes on cool and you will not burn if you use as directed! The mist is great if you do not have anyone around to do your back and it is refreshingly cool! 8)

I always pre-tan about 2 weeks before, everything but the face!

I make a spray bottle of 45 spf sunblock a lil inexpensive hair conditioner with a lil water to thin it out. It works great as a sun protectant on the hair and part, that as I get older, it always seems to burn! You can buy little travel spray bottles at Target to put it in!

And for the lips, Sugar Lip Balm SPF 15 by Fresh, you can get it at Sephora, best lip balm for burnt or chapped lips also protects lips from the sun and wind!
I carry it with me always! My teenage daughter has turned all her friends on to it, but I am sure she did not tell them Mom turned her onto it!

I leave my Jo Malone fragrace at home, I do not want to attract the bugs! :P

Betty - Sugar & Jo Malone --- a girl after my heart. Two of my favs that I forgot.

VickiH - be careful liking anything I like ... if I fall in love with it inevitably it is discontinued. The cool dip, my favorite sunscreen, my favorite fizzy water! IT NEVER FAILS. I am like the curse of product death. But you will NOT regret the body oil. It is amazing. Almost feels like silk and a subtle but slightly heavier version of the lotion or perfume.

I use banana boat waterproof/sweatproof sunblock and go to the tanning bed before the trip as I am very pale right now! We usually go before beach vacation so that it isn't really an issue if I forget the sunscren. If I have too many cocktails before we hit the beach I could get really burned so I plan ahead! I also use banana boat after sun lotion, burn relief gel and spf 8 oil spray. I use a high SPF chapstick.

The bugs don't bother me to much so I use whatever I have. I guess it is all of the garlic I eat regularly! That or the Cayenne pepper in Tony Chachere's seasoning.

Other than that I use whatever shampoo and conditioner I am using this week and a bar of dove soap. I usually straighten my hair but at the beach there is no point so I go natural and curly. Unlike Rick I do bring the razer though.

I don't really need makeup with a tan so I only bring waterproof mascara, lip gloss and eyeliner.

We love Tony's seasoning. All the salt is a little hard on my skin though! I just use a little picaridin-based spray on the ankles and that works (allergic to DEET).

I guess the razor is key if you're wearing one o' them flossy bikinis... Christine (NoTanLines) doesn't let me where mine anymore. I think it looks pretty good if I lay flat and suck in my gut.

Cheers, RickG

The Smashbox O-Glow is a new product, just out recently. You can only get it at sephora.com. I seriously doubted it would be worth the price, but it really is if you like to go makeup-less. After cleaning your face, you can just put a little on your cheeks and you have a beautiful natural blush. Love it!

OMG Rick you are too funny! The razor is key even if you aren't wearing a flossy bikini! :D

The Tony's is ingested for flavor and just has side effects. although a good salt or sugar scrub with oil can feel really nice and be good for the skin.
