S-Babe and I have been discussing this for months. We only do carry-on and each trip becomes lighter and lighter.

Pia makes a good point. I doubt we would break even when you add up the postage and storage compared to paying a little more once we arrive. Much simpler as well. We have to go to the store once we arrive anyways, might as well support the local economy.

I don't think Connections' fee is daily, Pia. I believe we paid just one flat rate.
We ship a box, and like that plan. One reason we choose to do this is to send a bunch of things that we don't want to buy full packages of. Now mind you, we're budget travellers. In my box go all sorts of unusual things I don't want to do without or buy full boxes of: zip lock bags, trash bags, S.O.S. pads, packets of laundry soap, foil, a sharp knife, a length of clothesline and pins, various lotions, OFF lantern refills and candles, deck of cards, cheapo flashlight and batteries, Bush's baked beans for Blaine.... I take everything out of it's original packaging and fit one HELL of a lot of stuff in that lil box.
Collecting and packing the box is part of the fun...gives me something to do while counting down!

My parents did this when they went to CA last year because they did not want to check bags but my dad has a disability and carry on is not an option for them. They checked in at the airport because my dad needed a ride to the gate and they were grilled about why they were flying with no baggage.
Don't mean to hijack the tread, but these TSA stories make my blood boil. In August we were in San Diego airport with my MIL. She's in a wheelchair, one which the airline provided, pushed by an airline employee. She sets off the metal detector and they insisted on wanding her STANDING, which she really can't do without her walker, even though there was a chair two feet behind her. I tried to go back and explain the problem but I got '"he hand" and told to "move along." If she had pitched over it would be one hell of a lawsuit... Good thing I know a good lawyer :-).
