First Night Restaurant??
we have been mighty lucky on trips down nonstop out of atl- always on island between 4 & 6. we go straight to starfish, buy adult beverages, some stuff for couple days lunch and go to prepared food case for pasta salads and other cold dishes. couple trips when we arrived on sunday, pickings were thin and resorted to some cheeses and expensive fruit. to villa asap to view sunset or lighting of stt depending on time of yr.
we then snack, drink, unpack, enjoy views, drink, learn things about villa if new to us, drink in the views & to bed early to rest up for the next day. old folks need their rest and it sure is nice to rest on stj.

Second the Banana Deck rec and would also add the Beach Bar...I know that may seem a little odd with kids, but they have pretty decent food, especially when you're hungry and tired and just looking for something quick/easy.
You could grab one of those tables on the beach below the bar for the kids and just go up the stairs to place your order.
I also noticed people at the Beach Bar who picked up a pizza from nearby...that may have been Ronnies? Anyway, it looked really good.
Anyway, the bartenders didn't care as long as you were ordering drinks from them.
Got the view, the food...not to mention a Painkiller or two.

It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
On our first trip to STJ many many years ago our first meal was at Shipwreck Landing and for several years that was our traditional first dinner but now with all flights elimination we get in so late we are just too tired to go out anywhere.
It's always so late (we are usually on the 8 o'clock ferry) when we get there now we usually just stop at Dolphin and get some things for breakfast and we end up just eating some cheese and crackers or something light before we finally get into bed around midnight that first night.

Great suggestions, all!
I think I'd opt for either some supper at Banana Deck, take out from Uncle Joe's-AWESOME- great for dinner back at the villa, or if you have the energy, get some steaks/chicken/burgers/digs, etc... and unwind & unpack before grilling at the villa.
Don't forget to pick up the essentials!(Water,Rum, juices, salad stuff, snacks,ICE!!!, bread/breakfast foods, etc...)
If you do a little food shopping for a first night bbq, you'll undoubtedly get the flavor of what you'll be spending for the week.
Plus, it's nice to have that "feels like home" feeling on your first night into day of the vaca with a full fridge.
Another potential plus would be that you wouldn't have to do too much food shopping on your first full day there. That equals= more beach time!!!
It'll be a blast, regardless.
Have fun and always
