We also did one car for two couples. It definitely cuts the cost down!! We are plenty laid back and if there was anything that we wanted to do separately, we figured out - for example, one couple would drop the other off and pick them back up at a certain time if the two schedules permitted same - it didn't cause any problems! I am sure that if a day came where you wouldn't be able to do that - you could rent a vehicle for a day.

We were talking to our pals last night and were trying to figure out how to do one car for 6 people. Nothing practical will work on St. John. You can't fit 6 people and a cooler full of beers at the same time! A jitney might work, but I'm afraid someone will fall out!

Rick we had one of those for one night. It was crazy! You probably would have someone fall out! It was really hairy on steep hills.

cat, was that the trip where you had Ristaba? Was it an insane ball of kids in the back? I can so picture that.

Hey Rick - It was the Ristaba trip, and I was one of those insane "kids" in the back  Cat was driving (scary) because as she stated, she gets car sick so she always has to drive or be in the front. None of the wee ones were in that vehicle at all.

We loved riding in the back. It reminded me of being a kid at camp. I would do it again with a group of friends. The only part I didn't like was that the ones in the cab had no actual contact with the rest of us.

Poor Cat, if only she could hear what we were saying about her...hehehe...just kiddin' Cat, you know you're my FAVORITE sister

Hey there like I don't read this stuff nothintolose! You are so right Rick, it was the Ristaba trip and that trip was a BLAST!!!! Our parents stayed at Estate Lindholm so that they could sleep! There were times when I wasn't sure how the kids did.

I'm really not that bad at driving (I am always the driver because of the motion sickness) and it was the first night there and my first time driving on the left. I do agree about not being able to talk to the people in the back. It was frustrating.

Cat, you're coming with us next trip and always driving!! I like to stay at the Front Yard until 4AM and drink Jaegermeister.

We did a trip with another couple and shared one car and it worked well for us. We were on the same schedule for the most part. One day we split up, my husband and I fished while they went on a hike. They dropped us off at the boat and took the car for the day.
One other night we wanted to do dinner separately so we dropped them off in town and picked them up later.
I guess it all depends on the group.
If you aren't worried about costs then go ahead and spring for the second car.

You didn't mention if either couple were newbies. In that case I would definitely go with 1 car and save the $400.

Yes, one couple will be newbies.

I'm thinking we'll start out with one and if we decide later in the week we another, we'll get one at that point.

Not sure about the early risers vs the sleepers-inners. I suppose if it proves problematic we'll rent the second vehicle sooner rather than later.

Thanks for all the feedback.
Patr
