Looks great! Kind of reminds me of my granite - we remodeled 5 yrs. ago....but contracted it out. We're not much in the DIY department! LOL!

The granite and sink installation is now "done"....Now the works begins for us (again)....plumber comes tomorrow to connect up the new sink and faucet and then we have to measure and cut the old tiles and re-install on top of the granite....what tiles, you say.....Oh, the ones in our bath tub, of course...they needed to be cleaned and readied for re-installation!

Now, back to work, maybe we'll be done in ~ 2 weeks or so...al least we have countertops now, tomorrow will be a functional sink and dishwasher them maybe re-tiling will be done in one or two weekends.

We'll update when something cool happens...

CA Grl- Looks nice- I like the cabinets and your granite.

Believe me we would rather not be DIY's" right now but we are just too cheap to pay someone else to do all this....my wife and I have done some crazy projects...amazing we are still one...

Look nice your granite, Sherban. What's the name of it? I cannot see if it's the same we have in our kitchen at home.

Hi Linne- This type of granite is called Santa Cecelia here in the USA, specifically what we chose was called Santa Cecelia Dark...the names do vary a bit from dealer to dealer though. The origin of this granite is Brazil.

There are so many great types available these days some are georgeous and expen$ive too!

We chose this because it was very moderate in price and we liked the variation, grain and colors...but there were many others we would have preferrred had our budget been UNLIMITED!

We paid approx $42/sq ft installled.

Our granite is Ivory Brown from India, and I think it has a little more colour. But it's difficult to see in a picture. I have never seen the name Santa Cecelia, so I don't think you can buy it in Denmark.
But as I say. It looks nice.

What a difference! It really looks nice.

The granite in front of the really dark granite is what ours looks like. (in the truck)

Thanks for all the comments...

Pia- I checked out your blog and I see you are using fun materials....stuff we would use if we were planning to say in this house. I love your big tiles on the floor...they are similar to what we put in our kitchen in Virginia...very warm color...also like your glass/little tiles too. The tile we have does not interest either of us but we both want this project (and costs) to end soon. I love those little tiles and also glass tiles...very cool.

We did a kitchen remodel in Virginia where we put in all new cabinets and re-did the floor and re-did the counters, etc...that looked real nice when we were done but it was alot of work and alot of kitchen down time ...with little kids in the house it was tough on us...washing dishes in the bathroom for over a week, etc...ah, those were the days...

Wakey- Not 100% sure I am coming to Atlanta but thanks for the welcome anyway. I lived in Atlanta for 10 years back from ~ 1982-1993 and I drive down there once every few weeks now...

I LOVE reading about everyone's remodel projects! And I am mightily impressed with all you DIY-ers! Sherban, it's looking beautiful. CA Girl, I really love your granite and the way the pattern flows.

We laugh at ourselves because our project grew from "I just want a mudroom" to a big (for us - about 1100 sq feet) addition with the kitchen and 3 bathrooms being gutted. And it came with a puppy. :D (We kept telling the kids that we couldn't get a dog until we had a mudroom. They held us to that!)

It's been over a year since we moved back in, and I'm still grateful every day for my kitchen and my new office.

One of my favorite parts is the tile that DH picked out for the mudroom. It's different and gets some compliments:

This is one reason why we moved out (the kitchen during the remodel)

and I'm happy to now be at this stage:

Chicagoans... our kitchen was gutted down to the studs just like yours! Our project also grew! We live in a townhouse, where the kitchen flows into the dining room, which flows into the living room, and so on. We ended up remodeling the entire downstairs & up the stairwell and upper hall! Yikes! We only went over budget by about $40,000!

Here's a before & after of our kitchen!

Of course I wanted granite with a lot of "movement" in it, and couldn't afford what I wanted, so we shopped and shopped and found this beautiful slab for an excellent price and I just love it! It's got chunks of quartz in it that pick up and reflect the light. :D
