2 Qs: flying from CLT and On-island Childcare
Philbetm, keep reading and start posting MORE!
I have walked in your shoes, with my ILs so I can relate - really, really relate. It got to the point we stopped the travelling/visiting. The take, take, take wears you down and I can get why you would be frustrated.
Sorry I was so quick to snap back and I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. I think grandma bears are even more fierce than mama bears
At least that is how it is with my mom and her grandson.
Actually, quite some time ago I made a comment about travelling with the ILs and someone snipped at me about how their ILs are great and I shouldn't complain about mine. Given that experience, I should have thought first that there might be more behind the scene.
I hope you can get that vacation with just the grandkids very soon

I am sorry about your situation with your daughter--that really is unfortunate. I find it interesting how the whole dynamic works--I could NEVER ask my parents to sit (the one time that my dad and stepmom came down (at my husbands request-- I hired my Nanny to stay) my dad is just not so engaged--which is kind of sad-- not that he doesn't love his grandkids--but well, he just isn't that kind of guy.philbetm wrote:Is that all we mothers, mil's and
grandmothers are good for......to be
drug along to babysit?What about
a trip that is just for us to enjoy? Do
our children ever offer to take us
somewhere for that???NO...NO...No!!!
Yes someday we will be gone (dead you know)
what is everybody gonna do for a drag along
sitter then....you kids will miss us
then...maybe.![]()
Thank you for letting me vent...please don't
take it personal. There was a very unpleasant
episode today with one of my daughters and it
has left me FRAZZLED.![]()
I need STJ before May ... but not happening.
I am really envious of those who have these great granparent relationships where the Grands genuinely enjoy hanging with the kids--but i can also know of friends who abuse that privlege-
I hope that if i am lucky enough to become a grandparent (at the appropriate age on all parts!!!!)
that I am helpful and that m children understand the difference between mom and hired hands (so far we are not doing well inthat regard--but they are still young.
I hope you and your daughter work stuff out and that you get to STJ for some down time SOON-
oh and i offered to bring my dad to STJ--not to watch the kids, just to come--and he didn;'t want to --unless i was going to get a sailboat......seems dad isn't the beach type
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
It's probably not a good idea for a 37 week pregnant woman to respond to posts. Then again, it's probably not a good idea for anyone to bait a 37 week pregnant woman. Kind of like poking a bear... one that is very large, contracting and uncomfortable.
We have an unusual relationship with my in-laws. One that many find enviable. We do not "take advantage" of my MIL, and are setting clear boundaries on what we want her to do - and the rest of the time she gets to enjoy herself. However, she is an out of town grandma and spending alone time with her newest grandchild will probably be the highlight of that month for her.
That being said, I have been frustrated on many occasions lately with this board. I have received many comments that are very personal in nature. I am unsure if it's the economy, the holidays or what, but I am no one's punching bag. There are things that some of us have that others may desire or lack (for example, money, jobs, children, family, etc), but I don't turn around every time someone complains about their dad and say "well, at least you have one. Mine's dead so you should be happy for every moment with yours, even when he's being an arse." No one has to stop posting, just think before you post. If you wouldn't say it to my face, don't post it.
Rant over. I'm going to return to contracting every 30 minutes and peeing every 10 minutes. And YES, I will complain.

alw,
I am saying this to your face, just as I believe we should empathize with philbet, we should empathize with you. Hormones are no fun, trust me it gets worse. We all come to this forum with the benefit of our own experience, good and bad. That is what makes it so informative! Unique perspectives are just that, unique. Maybe there is a kernel in someones rant that might make you think in the future, "Ah, now I know what they were talking about."
Good luck with that baby!
Peace out...
