Roberto, you beat me to it. I'm going to St. Thomas in a few days. I have verizon and the people at the hotel say that verizon is spotty there. there's a great deal on a basic go phone that'll cost you 75 bucks for unlimited calls and texts to anywhere in the US (and in USVI and other US plan areas) for a month. The cheapest phone is $30 and you get $15 in use credit with it. Add $45 and select the .25/min plan. Then you can use the $60 use credit to add a month of unlimited service.Roberto wrote: AT&T Go Phone
if you don't use text, then you can do it for even less - ten cents/minute plus a dollar a day. (unlimited texting is 20 bucks per month.) i don't like to count minutes and my wife and i like to text each other so the $75 unlimited thing for the week we'll be there works for us.

This phone issue is perplexing in that we have so many different outcomes.
I too have Verizon and while coverage was spotty at times (aren't they all?), I had no overages on my bill (ZERO!).
Before leaving (this time last year) I called Verizon 3 different times and was given 3 different answers on what a call would cost.
The plan was not to use my phone and to use my friends land line with a calling card.
In the end I used my phone several times and they didn't charge me anything.
Verizon did say Internet would have hit me hard but.. What do they know??
Bring your notebook, I know I did. Many places like restaurants will let you use their wifi if you ask, and of course villas usually have it as well.

Outta all the islands we've been to I have to say St John feels the safest to me by far. Feels about as safe as our little town here in Ohio. If a crime does happen though I here the police on St John are about useless.
We have ATT and it works great on Island. As said might want to pic up a cheap Go phone.
OH yea Salomon is definetly worth it. Our fave beach
I noticed the word is getting out as it was a little buisier than normal last trip. And that was in the dead of hurricane season
Not crowded by any means but I thought for sure we would have it to ourselves.
