PS: I agree with all those that said 1) don't hassle with bringing anything down with you for only 5 days, you can buy anything you need on St. John (not like years and years ago when that definitely wasn't true); and 2) rent a car for the whole time you're there & explore, explore, explore this gem of an island (unless you want to save money by not renting it the day you arrive and the day you go to another island.

I always shop at Pine Peace or Starfish but isn't there a newer, pretty-well-stocked grocery store right by Rhumblines? (I'm asking for input for you from others here as, if it's still open, that would be very close to Grand Bay for you).

Welcome to the forum! Our first trip was last March and the advice we got here was priceless.

We purchased some bagels, cereal, eggs and bacon on island and ate in most mornings.

There was a clothes washer & dryer in our villa so we packed very little clothing.

I'm very glad we had a car for the entire trip, exploring all the interesting nooks and crannies and different beaches was our favorite thing. I'm not the kind of person who can sit in one spot for long.

Have a great trip!

We're going to extend our trip by a day...not fantastic, but the best DH can do with work. So Sunday - Saturday. I still think we're going to rent a car for just a part of our trip since we're staying right in Cruz Bay, probably for 3 full days since we are either going to charter a boat for a day or take the ferry to Jost and Bath. I am a bit concerned about the winter swells so we might just play it by ear and see what it's like when we get down there. I know that's taking a risk in high season, but I'd rather go by ferry than cancel a trip and lose $$ b/c I'm not comfortable on the water in a smaller boat.

I'm going to pass on the provision delivery. We arrive kind of late in the day so I liked the idea of having some stuff ready and waiting for us, but between the $175 and the delivery fee I don't think it's worth it. I am going to bring 2 steaks, coffee supplies and condiments from home - not a big deal, but easy to get into my suitcase. Has anyone flown with individual creamers? Will they explode? DH is the only one of us who drinks coffee so I'd rather pack enough for 6 morning cups.

Life is so hectic for us right now that dreams of warm sand and beautiful vistas are getting us through!

Sounds great!!

If you are just going to bring a couple of steaks you might be able to get by with carry on only. I have done that and used the soft insulated coolers (like you can get at Sam's.) I just put them inside and folded it up.

Good idea about the ferry. You will likely be on your own so make sure to do a little research about Jost and the Baths so that you know where to go and what you want to do.

There is nothing like planning a vacation and dreaming about it to clear your mind!
