Sorry, no signs of Oprah. I think she arrived before I did.

Neither did I see Elvis, the queen or Bigfoot

Iprof - I'm really impressed by your notifaction that Denmark is not my country. I just work here a couple of days a week.

I'll be out of here this afternoon as tomorrow will Mr Obama himself come, and the city is not big enough for the both of us, so I decided to leave . And just about everything here will be closed, inluding the airport, so it's not a good travel day either.

Maggy, what a fun for you to have seen Mrs. Obama. She seems to be such a nice person, and I admire her style and intelligence.

As I'm sure you know it's really a big story here in Denmark that so many celebrities visit our little country just in the moment. Most of all that Michelle and Barack Obama will be here (The Danes must be a little stupid because most of us like them :D ).

I have only seen the Oprah shows a few times (on a bike in the fitness centre), but I must admit that the show isn’t my style. But she seems nice, and I’m a little exited, because she wants to make a program about Copenhagen and to talk with Danish people. And if you want to give a negative picture of the city and our country you can always find some Danes, who is ready to speak slighting about it. So how the program will end up depends of the type of people, she is looking for.

If some of you see the program, it could be interesting for me to hear, what your impression is.

Concerning which city should have the OL, I don’t have any favourite.

Alright! The over/under was 36 hours on snide, politicized, provocative replies by Soxfan to an innocuous post dealing with current events. I took the under. Thanks!

No, but I have been driving around Loch Ness twice, but no sight of any monster. Except one statue of the monster, in a city called Fort Augustus  .

All she said was that she saw the first lady and that it was cool.

Unfortunately, in doing so she used the dreaded word..."Obama." That word seems to be like the scent of rotting food for the political cockroaches.

As for Chicago getting the Olympics, it would be great. Great for my home town of Chicago and for my adopted home of Madison. The word is that most of the cycling events would be held here.

Rooting against it...just because one can't stomach the fact that Obama won the election...is asinine. Suppose Obama was lobbying for a new manufacturing facility to locate to NJ...bringing with it much needed jobs, etc. Would the response still be, "Go Rio?"

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Funny Pete, but I haven't heard Deal Leader say word 1 about jobs lately.

He does use the word "crisis" pretty often though...As in, we should never allow a good one to go to waste.

Use some common sense. Workers are going to be needed to build the venues. Workers in this area need work. Rooting for Rio is about as anti-American as it gets.

I dare you and SJNJ to go down to the IBEW hall and tell those idle workers that you hope jobs go to Rio. Nope, you wouldn't do it because they would kick your asses. No internet to hide behind.

How come when I say this...

I think it's unfair to the rest of our world partners that we, the big bad evil Americans who are arrogant, and often derisive, should host yet another Games. We are exceptional in no way, other than in our lack of exceptionalism. We have caused the world at large (our partners) only harm.

...it is considered a "snide, politicized, provocative" comment? Yet when our president (the man who is supposed to think he is the leader of the greatest nation in the history of the world) says it, liberals give resounding, universal applause?

It would really be interesting to undo all that the US has done across the world over the past 230 years or so, especially across the European continent...That would be fun for about 30 seconds...

I just have a feeling that all those who denigrate, and to magnify our imperfections, would rue the day they decided to do so.

As Ronald Reagan put it (a man who clearly loved his country), "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere".

After being in Vancouver and seeing the excitement and development boom in anticipation of the winter games this year, I have to believe Chicago (or any US city for that matter) winning an Olympic bid is a good thing.

The economic impact is huge. Not just during the games but the infrastructure (buildings, sports complexes, downtown commerce, public transit, etc) left behind have a real impact on the city for years to come after the games themselves have come and gone.

The people of Vancouver were electrified with excitement and pride. It was infectious!

How bitter and cyncial have we become when we turn a president's support of an Olympic bid in a US City into something negative and politicized?

Yeah Pete, the unions will get the work. And I call BS on your assertion that I would not speak up in front of the unions.

I went to a Town Hall that my rep, Joe Courtney, held on the Stimulus back in Feb. The room was of course lined with union thugs, trying to intimidate folks from speaking out. Courtney was talking about how this was going to bring jobs to SE CT in the form of shovel-ready jobs...I stood up in a room of 500 people, many union thugs who were not even part of our district, and asked Joe how this stimulus was going to help the non-unionized worker (of whom there are many more than unionized). How will this help the homebuilder, the private carpenter, the guy who owns a little renovation company...In other words, and I made this point clear, the goal of the stimulus was to pay back all those who got Obama elected, namely the unions and ACORN.

The "party of the people" once again really didn't care about, dare I say it, Joe sixpack who makes a living building new bathrooms, decks, and 15'x20' family rooms.

So please, spare me your macho, "they will kick your asses" rhetoric. It is un-American, and does nothing to further the dialogue. But you really don't weant it furthered, because your party depends on a public that is apathetic towards the political scene. Again, it is how Obama became president.

I wasn't rooting for the Iraq war to fail...I felt that we never should have been there in the first place.

You are rooting for jobs to go to another country. And, all because you can't stand the fact the Obama is our President. It really is that simple. You can try to muck up your argument by bringing up the war and polls, but reduced to its essence your argument is a simple one: if Obama is for it, no matter what "it" is, you are against it.

"It", this time, just happens to be the Olympics. Simple, transparent, argument. Not well reasoned, in fact devoid of any reason, it is a product of your emotion. Not one of your finer efforts.
