Need advice on house/cat sitter fee

I am new to this site... but I was just reading this board about pet sitting. My husband and I have just entered the "empty nest" phase of life and would like to spend some time in the USVI. Do you think there are opportunities for long term pet/house sitting? We are moving from Lake Murray, SC and are considering renting our home to snowbirds or a vacation home exchange. What do you think?

Maybe put an ad out and see how it goes?

I am thinking of taking our dog with us on vacations. My girlfriend took hers with her to Colorado and she said it worked really well. She needed to have the dog in a carrier--and that carrier needed to fit under the seat in front of her. I can't remember what it cost to have him fly with her but it wasn't bad--certainly less than you are spending for cat/dog sitting--and you get to bring them along!!

I am going to have to look for pet friendly places to stay.
