Schnell and AH-my grandparents owned a placed in Port Orange and my mom moved down there a number of years ago too before she passed. Loved that whole area-great seafood restaurants and the beach was a lot of fun. We found JB's last year when my husband and I went down for a visit. Definitely "old Florida" which is great. Any other good food recommendations? We always try to stay at the old mom/pop motels. We're going in a few weeks and normally eat up around the Port Orange/Ponce Inlet area but will swing into JB's on the way from the Orlando airport. Thanks!
SJ-I remember seeing a launch once during the day it was amazing!

Toni-We have been going to JB's for a number of years. It hasn't changed much over the years which is part of it's "charm".
For lunch or dinner right on the beach there is Chases on the Beach. You can walk in from the beach (park on the beach) or you can drive in off A1A. Also there is Breakers which is on the beach end of Flagler but we really just like to sit at the counter over looking the ocean and have drinks. Great Long Island Ice Teas! Their wings aren't bad either. We really liked Flip-Flops but I heard they moved into the old "Shells" building and food is not what it was in the old location. But who knows? I'm sure we will give them a try when we go back and decide for ourselves.
SJ-I see there are some deals to be had at the time share condos this fall. Can't beat the view! We have also seen some homes for rent by owner by the week or the month that are less expensive than the condos.
We have not been fortunate enough to see a shuttle launch yet but are looking forward to having lots of opportunities real soon.

I can't count how many shuttle launches we have seen over the 8 yrs of living here. Best was we were at a family members house and my wife threw me a surprise b-day party and invited everyone we knew. They live on the brackish creek that feeds into the atlantic and the shuttle went up over the water. Watched it from their dock. Was a perfect night for a launch and our out of town guests were just in awe. Other good spot to watch a launch is from the ponce inlet jetty. The shuttle makes the ocean glow during a night launch. I work in a 4 story building and have access to the roof so we may head up there tomorrow after lunch to see the launch.
Couple places in Port Orange area to eat would be "Down Under" which is under the Dunlawton bridge, east end, south side of the bridge....another old FL seafood place. LaFiesta is a mexican place in Port Orange, basically at the corner of Nova and Dunlawton. Couple other seafood places are in Ponce inlet, the North Turn (right on the ocean) and Boondocks (right on the river). I'm sure there are others, but those are a few that came to mind in Port Orange/Ponce area.
Breakers in New Smyrna, right on the beach is a good spot. Burgers are awesome! Im there once a week pretty much! And yes Flip Flops was good and did move to the shells building. Not as good anymore. Clancys cantina is supposed to be good too, but have not tried it yet.
Yeah, NSB is not such a small secret place anymore. Was when we moved here, but things have changed in the past few years. Still a very nice place to come visit or live though. We like it
