Camera stuff:

I had two cameras with me--my old Canon sd800, and the new camera, which is a Canon powershot SX1 IS. The pictures are from both. The octopus shot was taken with the old camera. I actually have a whole sequence of pictures of that octopus moving around and changing colors. I'll put a link at the end of the final trip report--I am still editing that larger set down.

The new camera in its housing was hugely bulky, but great for really zooming in on small stuff. For example the Haulover North flamingo tounge picture was taken with the new camera.

No flash on either camera--neither housing is flash compatible. You can buy an external flash that threads through the housing for the new camera, but I didn't have it for this trip. I want to get it though!

teragram, I read somewhere that the starfish go in and out of the bay based on the cycle of the moon. I don't know if it is true or not. We've only found the full forest of starfish once--other times only a few are around, and this time not a single one!

Pia, pm me your email and I will send you the picture. :D

That octopus was really posing for that shot! Stunning!

I'll be sure to try the whole snapper at Lime Inn next time! If it passed your taste test it must be de-lish~ I can't believe I have never made it there on any of our trips!

Also have never tried Haulover North or Great Lamshure/Teteke! Gotta try that too.

Hope the rain lets up for the rest of your trip! Thanks for sharing all your island adventures with us!! :P

The octopus shot is so cool!

I agree with you about snorkeling at Great Lameshur - we loved it too. We didn't swim as far as you did, though. I usually start to get cold in the water before we get to swim that far.

Was it nice to have a beach that you can just walk down to from your villa and start snorkeling? Not that we mind driving, but I was considering a villa like that for our next trip to St. John although we generally prefer staying higher up. There aren't many walkable-to-snorkeling-beach type villas on the island, and finding something we like for our price range is not easy. I think I've given up... but it's okay.

Looking forward to more reports!

your photos are the best!!!!

You must be a very patient snorkeler to see all you see each trip.

Keep the pictures coming.

Wow...that octopus photo is amazing! I didn't even know that they changed colors. Loved the shark pics, too! Do you dive down underwater, to get your beautiful photos, or are you floating on top of the water?

Ditto on the octopus!! Amazing shot! All of your pictures are amazing, of course, but that "octophoto" is the best! :D

Great report. That shot of coral below the surface is fantastic.

I definitely need a new camera... I would be embarrassed to post the pics I am getting with my piece of junk :)
Nice work - and thanks for posting them.

All your pictures are just incredible!
What patience you must have- and eye for it.

Sorry you were stung.

A pleasure to read your TR.
