Anthony,
Good websites, thanks. We make wine here in our home and have a supertuscan ready to bottle soon. It's pretty good.
We're in Rome for 4 nites, free, taking train to Pisa and Lucca. Renting a car in Lucca staying in Lucca at a B&B and driving to Greve to stay at a B&B and touring the area on our own. May even rent bikes in Lucca for a change. We'll dump the car in Siena and head to Florence. Maybe a side trip to Osti Antica from Rome. Maybe a side trip to Venice from Florence...but I'm not entirely into Venice. Spend the nite in Rome at an airport hotel before heading back to LAX.

What do you think?

What kind of grapes are you using?

The trip sounds pretty good- I went to Ostia Antica - don't remember it that well. Venice is a haul from Florence - twice as far as Rome-Florence. Driving from Lucca to Greve should be great. So you are just renting the car for the ride down - or making side trips out of Lucca also? The country side up the Serchio River valley is pretty amazing. There is the great medieval bridge -

And the wind cave -

And the town or Barga - http://www.barganews.com/

For Rome - have you seen my site about the Ara Pacis?

And you have to check out the Roma Pass - I think Waterguy used this when there: http://www.ara-pacis-museum.com/2006/11 ... _card.html

Hi
Roma pass is the way to go it gets you into 2 places free and the rest at a discount and you can hop on and off all the subways and buses for free, But the best thing is you get to go to the head of the line so no waiting. The only places it doesn't work is at the vatican and St Peters.

During morning coffee today the news was boring so tuned over to live coverage of Tour de France. They were doing a crazy 99 mile mountain stage in the part of the Alps where Switzerland, Italy and France intersect. Spectacular aerial shots in high def. One of the montain passes they are going over had snow 2 days ago.

Anthony - does the Tour de France generate anything close to soccer in the level of interest in Italy?

Just a question...
Has anyone been on Sardinia? Feedback. I know it's a 9-12 hour boat ride, but there is air travel.

I'm guessing that is a 2nd sort of trip to Italy. See the incredible history this time, but go back for a more layed back vacation???

It's really tough having a relative working for Starwood and getting free rooms. Rome or Sardinia? The beaches look incredible.

I definitely took up the wrong major in college! Get your kids into hotel and restaurant management. The discounts your reep after graduation make helping pay for that tuition well worth it. :D It's hard work the first few years, but it does pay well if you get in with a Marriott or Starwood property.
