My brewer in the brewpub venture has given up beer/alcohol a couple of time for Lent. That's like giving up computers if your a technology consultant, it really doesn't work. This year he's given up meat completely.
Lent's one of those strange traditions that is hard to make sense of, until you work through the economics of middle europe economics. Guess who produce all of the olive oil that was the substitute for the animal fat/butter/lard used in food preparation - the Italians. The Northern Europeans sent a ridiculous amount of money south during the Lenten periods.
Cheers, RickG

I was going to give up cussing. And I was doing just fine until 7:57 a.m. on Ash Wednesday. Some dude tried to sideswipe my new car on the Interstate.
I hadn't eaten chocolate yet, so I went to plan B.
It's been almost 2 weeks. I'm still going strong.
As for drinking, I've got no plans to give that up. I think mango mojitos sound good right now.

Visited my in-laws this weekend and MIL told my 11 and 14 year old daughter that the Pope said they needed to give up technology. My 11 year old is a text maniac and just looked at Gramdma with disbelief that she'd even suggest such a thing!
Gathered with the family for a mini-reunion Saturday night and my brother-in-law brought his Painkiller Mix and Banana Rum - made it really tough for me to resist!

I think I'll send the pope a text and tell him what I think about giving up texting for Lent.
Oh wait, that's not quite right...

We haven't been there in years. It is a fun place. We especially like the lounge later at night...it gets a "Swingers" vibe. We all should go after Juice conquers the marathon and is back to drinking.

Swingers vibe? 'splain. I don't recall that part.

From the movie, "Swingers." Cheesy, retro cocktail lounge with plush booths and cool martini glasses. Do you remember the circular booth in the lounge area?

ROFL ... that's not the kind of swinger I was thinking either, Marcia!

Yup, Vince Vaughn. That soundtrack gets heavy rotation at my house. Vegas baby, Vegas!
