Not to be a pain, but....... I still am coming up with close to $100 to send a 20 pound package down from Rochester, NY!!! I actually personnaly just made the rounds to USPS as well as other mailing companies, and was still quoted $100. The only other choice was "Flat Rate Shipping box", thanks for the tip, but our PO said the largest one is the "Large" size which is about 1.5 shoebox size, very small, which is $14 to ship, not bad, but can only fit very, very little, say two masks, two snorkels, thats it. Any other ideas???

Pia- I hope so too. If not we'll be buying stuff on St. John, make that more stuff, and renting fins from Crabby's.

For the data base-my package was 26 lb. from Baltimore, Maryland-Priority Mail

$43.05+$.65 confirmation

catmom, I think you may have been quoted INTERNATIONAL Priority Mail prices instead of DOMESTIC. I remember the first person I spoke to at the P.O. didn't realize the USVI is considered domestic. Either that, or maybe you've been quoted Express Mail instead of Priority Mail.

Here's the calculator...St. John's Zip is 00830.

Hey JC

You got it down right...that is exactly what we do when we send down packages. Next time we will ship our clothes too. Our last trip our package got their in 3 days. wooo hooooo. It is going to be nice to get on the plane with just a tote bag. We only paid $33.00 for a big box filled to the top. The only thing is that when we picked up our box at Connections it was totally RETAPED with post office tape!!! does anyone know if the post office or whoever opens the box and inspects the contents????????? seems kinda strange to me. Thanks.

ig-

I'm not aware of any inspection that takes place. I do know that the boxes can take one serious beating on the way! Laugh  ...but I literally use almost one full roll of tape per box. I cover every square inch and reinforce the corners! Works like a charm...even to the point that I am able to re-use the very same boxes for my return! Perhaps the PO was taping a smooshed box!?!? :?

The $100 rate quoted above MUST have been an international rate!!! EEK! Make sure to ask for priority mail to the Virgin Islands 00831!

HI JC

hmmm thanks for the reply. Our box did not appear crushed or anything...just seemed kinda strange that someone retaped it. But this time I will make sure everyting is triple taped   and corners too is a good idea. I will never use carryon again. Why do that..ya know. so much easier to send it ALL down.

ya mon $100 is international rate. Everyone, tell the post office clerk it is domestic. USVI is part of the U.S. some peps dont know that

Oh yeah JC you advised me last year about shipping packages down. THANK YOU so much...it has helped us alot. it feels so good to be hassle free on the flight down. Less is better

You know, there's this thing called "Google" that you can use to look up Web sites, e-mail addresses, phone numbers for yourself instead of demanding them from others.

When I checked my confirmation number this morning the St. John Post Office had received the package at 2:49 PM yesterday.Mailed 11:32 AM from Baltimore on 2/23.

It's now with the property management company after delivery to Connections. Clearly Connections guidelines of capital block letters, with no punctuation works.

I am NOT crazy, I am NOT crazy, I am NOT crazy. I must keep saying that, because despite what you all say, I still come up with $120 to ship a 2 ft by 2 ft 20 lb package from my zip code, 14580. I used the post office link given a few replys back. OK, I guess I am crazy, but thats what it comes up.

What is the height of your box - I also got $120 when I entered you dimensions but did not have the height so I guessed it was the same. I am guessing it's the weight 20lbs seems alot.
