Believe me when I say that FF and I are totally obsessive about checking those flights regularly. I even checked the schedule yesterday prior to posting to this thread just to be sure.

I've never manaaged to get a flight into STT that early so it will be interesting to see if it works.

As someone posted earlier-- the other thing too is that the flights are early enough in the day that something else could conceivably be worked out and the airline is obligated to get us to our destination one way or the other.

Since I now have my trusty iPhone I'll be happy to report on our progress on June 19th -- hopefully from the connecting flight before we take off rather than the lounge!

We did a dirt cheap late AA flight into SJU from JFK once and stayed overnight at the San Juan airport Best Western (right after it was renovated), then did an early morning AA puddle jumper to STT, got the jeep at the Budget counter, over to Red Hook, and onto St. John well before noon. The buzz of being there so early made up for the overnight travel.

I second this approach. If you catch the last flight of the day to SJU and stay overnight at or near the hotel, you can still work a full day (or close thereto) on the day of your flight and thus maximize your vacation days, which is always an issue for me.

My clients are predominantly British and always laugh when we compare the amount of holiday that we get with them. Bastards!

Wow, flight 655 out of JFK is popular, cuz we are also on that flight for June 21st. We are flying out of Boston @ 6am, and our connection onto flt 655 is 40 minutes. Makes me nervous, but that 12pm arrival in STT will be heaven if all goes well. I'm hopeful that our American Eagle flight will come into a gate close to where 655 departs. If we leave ontime, and the gates are somewhat close, we should be okay.....I pray!!

I think many of us who used to fly thru MIA or SJU from DC are now opting for this flight due to scheduling concerns.

They've really cut back on these routes so we're forced to look at other connections if we want to get there before dark!

Haven't looked in a while but I think that was the main reason we opted for this flight.

Worst case scenario-- I'm grabbing mini-est flip flop from his mama and running for the plane telling the flight attendants that the childs mother isn't on board yet. NO WAY they will close those doors!!

For all of those using flight 655 from JFK to STT:

I just called AA after reading this thread, and wanted to ask about the short connection time, and also about the flights changing. I spoke to one of the nicest agents I've ever talked to. She has been with AA for 18 years, and was very knowledgable. She also said she worked at JFK for many years. According to her, if you are arriving on an AA flight, you will definitely be arriving at the same terminal as your departing flight to STT. She said making a quick connection will be easy. I then asked about flight changes, and she told me that flight 655 from JFK to STT is one of the longest running, oldest, most popular flights, and it's been running that morning flight for as many years as she could remember. She assured me that flight isn't going to change anytime soon.

I feel a lot better after speaking with her....142 days!!

loria - has it been your experience that some of the equipment they run on that route is as old as dirt too?
Twice we've been delayed on the tarmac for repairs before our old 737 finally was cleared to shake, rattle, and roll down the runway.

yep--they are OLD planes.shake rattle and roll down that tarmac....but it's worth it for what awaits on the other side! (and i am pretty sure that it is either the earliest or among the earliest flights in from the states--though i could be wrong on that account)
