Good luck with your new president and the inauguration
Thanks Linne. 18 months ago I went to a meeting room at our local public library to hear a longshot candidate for President---an African American in a state that is 95% white-- speak about environmental issues. It was a small enough group that everyone in the room got to go up and shake his hand and say hello. I came home from that meeting incredibly impressed, but thought it was only a remote possibility he could become President.
A lot can happen in 18 months.

Enough
Enough already!
All I know is that this country is in the Beach Bar crapper with a spoon key missing.
It is time for us to move forward and figure this out and bring back a little integrity to this country.

Re: Enough
The restroom at the Beach Bar recently was renovated. Does that mean that there is hope for our country?Boston Mike wrote:Enough already!

Wisconsin, smell the dairy air
Here in Denmark we follow the inauguration very close. It’s the top story of today,
all the TV stations send it live, and the newspapers have written about it for days.
I have just seen Obama’s speech, and as usual I get touched. I think he is such a fantastic
communicator, that’s a part of his strength. And the moment also is touching - as I have said it before, and which is said many times, that he’s a president now, shows people in other countries, how it is to live in a free and democratic country. You have to be proud of that.
I also was amused seeing his speech, because we saw it simultaneous translated to Danish, and there was so many mistakes, some of them funny. Too example something about that people perhaps have to reduce their working time, so that other people could avoid to be “fathers”!!!
.
I have never been a fan of Bush. Opposite to Obama he is a bad communicator, so sometimes he seemed a little stupid for a president to be. But I have never seen him as the “big devil”. He had a difficult job, and the time was difficult after 9/11. And how could I blame him for the Iraqi war. When it started, I was convinced, that we helped the Iraqi people. And perhaps the history will show that it wasn’t so bad. Who knows.
I really like the word xislandgirl brought:
"just heard a great quote from the Mayor of Washington, DC. (not verbatim)
If we come together on the things we have in common instead of arguing over the things we disagree on, there would be no movement right or left, only forward"
Best wishes for the future. If it will be better in USA, it will be better here, and just now the situation is really bad in our little country. Worse that anyone have imagined it could be. For some month ago we had a very good and stabile economy with very few unemployed. Things have suddenly changed very fast!

Wow....I would not think that the right wing whack jobs would be hijacking threads today. I would have thought they would be in the bomb shelter, with hours upon hours of Rushbo and Hannity tapes, clutching Ann Coulter books to their chests and praying that we would see the error of our ways.soxfan22 wrote:It's funny that you changed your post JMQ (something about Clinton keeping us safe longer than Bush did)...I was about to remind you of:
1. Somalia - our troops dragged by thugs and terrorists through the streets...Bill Clinton runs away with no retribution...Later, Bin Laden would say that this was the singular event which led him to believe that the American will was weak enough for him to pull off the 9-11 attacks.
2. The bombing of the USS Cole. Again, no retribution of any consequence from Bill Clinton.
Both took place after the 1st World Trade bombing.
Classy. Happy to see that Obama's new spirit is rubbing off on you.

Seriously Mr. B...You didn't have to do that. We all post silly things that we'd like to retract from time to time.
It is a new day. A day of forgiveness and healing. I'm sure you're a great guy - and in the spirit of coming together and all things Obama, I'd love to buy you a Red Stripe at the Beach Bar someday. You like sports? Dave Matthews? SEC football? Buffett? I can talk about those things all day long...I'm sure we could find some equal ground even given our political differences.
