Last night I test drove some new things on sticks recipes. I am thinking about doing an all "things on sticks" party for the Super Bowl this year (assuming I host a party this year, I only do one when the Patriots are in it). I figure things on sticks are easy to eat, and if the game gets boring people can start poking each other with the skewers, ha ha.
So, here is last night's plate. In the front there are chinese five-spice sesame chicken skewers, with a mango chutney for dipping. These were good but I would do a sweet chili sauce instead of the mango next time. To the left are spedini. Those are bread and mozzarella grilled and coated with a lemon-olive oil-caper-parsely sauce. I left them a little too long and the cheese got too melty, but it was just me and John so I put them on anyway.
Next to those are the "kid skewers." They are chicken coated in italian crumbs and parmesean cheese and served with a simple honey-mustard-mayo sauce. Very kid-friendly. Next to those, you can barely see them, are the yummiest one--dates stuffed with parmesean cheese chunks and wrapped in bacon. YUM!
The beef skewers are rare seared tenderloin coated in Cruz Bay grill rub and served with a balsamic onion jam. John LOVED these and ate them all. We have lots of chicken left over. I meant to make mushroom skewers too but I ran out of time. Next batch for sure.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I love food on a stick! This is why I go to the state fair in VA as often as possible 
For dessert my godmother did a chocolate fountain with all the stuff to put under the fountain on a stick. Little cheesecake chunks, marshmallows, pretzel rods, etc. It was so much fun for the kids.
My daughter who was then about 3, took one look at it, turned to me and said "mama, that is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!"

Janet, I hope so! I'm not huge on football, but John is obsessed, and the Patriots make him so happy. Plus, I love hosting the Super Bowl parties. I get to make tons of goofy food, and everyone has so much fun. Super Bowl victories are always followed by a huge touch football game out in the yard, preferably involving lots of random snowballs. Good times, I'm telling you.
You can get the skewers anyplace, I think...try the gadget aisle of the supermarket. I picked up my skewers at Kitchen Arts on Newbury Street on the way to my train. I think they were $1.85 for a package of cookies.

tonight's dinner was inspired by this dish at Zozo's.

Here's my take on it. I wasn't trying to copy it but emulate it. The original was Swordfish on a white bean lobster brodo with crispy beets. Mine was sea bass on a white bean tomato broth with parmesan asparagus. It was pretty darn good I thought.

And our new wine glasses came today!

SJfromNJ, I have seen those sticks too and I think the concept sounds a little dubious, but a restaurant in Boston recently opened that features them! Check out the menu:
