Trip Report 7/14 - Day 5
Up at 5:30, toast, p-nut butter, granola bars, Blue Mtn.coffee. Left Orion's at 7:00 for Cruz Bay and Low Key Dive morning. Dan and Cindy certified divers, Jan and Sam along for snorkel. Everyone on boat at 7:30, dive master, Jeremy, from Moncks Corner, SC (go Cocks!) called Capt. Bob, "Bob, you up?, yes they're all on boat, want me to call you back in 10? You're on way?" Evidently, Bob lives close and rolled up shortly after. He's done 27 years in Cruz Bay and totally chill, never pays attention to weather, just goes out and rolls. As Jeremy said, we work 3 hours each morning and go home to count the money! Cool t-shirt in dive shop commemorating Bob's 27 years and story about couple who took their 2 yr old with them on dive trip. Bob assumed one of them would stay behind while the other dived, but no they both dove and expected Bob to babysit. A note about Bob as were talking, he doesn't believe in children! When mom comes back up and can't find 2 yr old, panicked, Bob goes, there he is, standing in corner stacked up to neck in life preservers! He got his point across, I don't babysit! Dumb ass mom for leaving 2 yr old on dive boat. Dove Congo and Sebago Cays. At lunch at High Tide. Enjoyed watching chickens climb mangroves and share our lunch. Great fish tacos, burgers and awesome lime and coconuts. Back to Conrad's to pick up car, locked keys in car and Spencer helped us out. A great local and fun to talk to. Dan and Cindy promised to send him some seeds from huge local Panama City lemons and GHM said she'd send local South Cac-a-laki stone ground grits. He promised up mangos which we never got back by to collect!
Back to villa for limin and pool time around 1:30. GHM went to sleep on pool float (too many lime and coconuts!). Nap time and up at 5:00 for shower. On to Sweet Plaintains for 6:15 reservation. Again, the most amazing meal; pork tenderloin, scallops ceviche', fresh pumpkin gratinee soup, West Indian chicken curry with basmati rice, plaintains and the most amazing martinis - Myers, Capt. Morgan's, vanilla rum with spices and cinnamon stick stirrer. GHM had another martini for dessert while everyone else indulged in coconut flan with caramalized ginger. If you have never experienced Sweet Plaintains, please, please make a point to go. The most amazing outside atmosphere and food. Owner, Prince, paused to talk and his wife, the chef, is extraordinary. Sam had made a point for 4 years running to seek her out after our dinner and sing her praises!
Back to Orion's for more limin and pool time.
Tomorrow, Oppenheimer and Jumbie.
