Favorite BVI day trip and why...

Post by Kathyzhere »

Hi forum,

Our next visit to STJ I want to finally visit
one of the BVI's, but not sure which one yet.

Would you please let me know your fave one
and why? ...

Thanks soooo very much :)

I'm leaning towards VG cuz of the Baths.

Help us decide, THANKS.

With or without bar flies in the group?

Without, I vote for VG.

With, White Bay on Jost as the bar hopping, beach walking, people watching is great.

I'm leaning more towards just hubs and I going.

So it would not be a "barfly" visit

I lost my drinking partner about 13 or 14 yrs ago,
BUT sometimes he does encourage me in stressful
times

Anyway; we enjoy the sites, hiking and of course
snorkeling.

JVD I believe is closest, so probably the most time
on island. Hanging at the Soggy Dollar for more
thank a drink or two wouldn't appeal to us...hubs!

Tortola we would consider...is it comparable to STT
in size and things to do??

VG has been in the lead but am I correct in
thinking the furthest away, so the least time on island?

Thanks in advance for any opinions!

Enjoy,
Kathy

Am I assuming right that you are just wanting to take the ferry over to one of them for the day?

If so, and it's just the two of you, I agree with Jost although everyone should do at least one visit to the Baths.

Have you considered chartering a boat for the day? This way you could spend time at the Baths, stop at the fabulous Indians for some choice snorkeling and play musical beach bars on White Bay. That would be the best day ever. We've done it and it was!

Sounds like VG might float your boat more. That said, it is farther away and you may get less time on island, depending on how you go there, but certainly enough time to hike and snorkel the Baths and Devils Bay, and have a nice lunch at the Top of the Baths restaurant which also features a pool and some nice shops.

Tortola is big and much less amenable to taxis than JVD or VG. VG has good beaches with good snorkeling (Devils Bay and Spring Bay), The Baths and a couple of restaurants all in the same neighborhood. Taxis are easy to come by. JVD has a very beautiful beach without much in the way of snorkeling.

I agree with the VG recommendations for the same reasons as previously posted.

I don't know if you are looking for an organized day trip type of thing but my mom and BF took Limnos (I may not have the spelling right) to the Baths and other snorkel stops. They thought it was a good value for the money. Neither is a drinker aside for an occasional beer or wine 3x or so times a year and they definately weren't looking for a party boat.

Jost is fun if what you want to do is hang out in beach bars for a day. Maybe pick up a t-shirt and have a picture taken with Foxy. It is closer to STJ. Depending on the season, it can be quite crowded.

We really like VG. There's nowhere else on this side of the world where you see sights like this:

There is a beach in the Seychelles with similar boulders, but I don't know if even that beach has anything like the caves.

An excursion is fun if you want to get to several different sites to snorkel with a stop on one of the islands. A ferry is a good option if you want to spend a day on just one island and get a taste of it. There's more to VG than the Baths and going by ferry allows for time to see a bit more and allows you to go about on your own rather than as part of a group.

If you're going on a charter and want the non-drinking experience, I can strongly reccomend a charter that stops at the Indians & the Caves for awesome snorkeling and then hitting Jost for a lunch stop at Foxy's Taboo with a side trip to the Bubbly Pool.

This was really a great day. We chartered with Flyaway Charters. For just two, it can be kinda pricey though. Not sure what your budget is.

IMHO, it was worth every penny to have a captain and a great poerboat all to ourselves.

Just popping in real quick to say thanks
everyone for the great thought and opinions.

I do value every one of 'em and thanks Lex
for the Bath shots!

We've decided to visit VG this time. We just
have to decide if we'll do a pvt trip, Limnos
or the ferry.

If and when we do a group island-hop we'll
head over to JVD...someday.

Thanks again budds
