Overdue Trip Report (the middle of our trip, May 08)

Post by Nic in KC »

So, last time I posted hubby and I were at Secret Harbour on St. Thomas and were awaiting my parents, my brother and his girlfriend who would arrive the next day. We were up again early on Saturday, quick granola bar in the room and off to the beach. It was our last time of just the two of us so we were determined to make every minute count!

It was Saturday, no one on the beach in the morning and we grabbed our loungers and began the sun, swim, snorkel routine. Another perfect day with sandwiches on the balcony for lunch.

Sometime during this day, I was lounging in the water and had noticed a young couple swimming out to this sun platform.

The woman had made it and was up on the platform when I saw the guy was splashing in the water and I thought he was joking around with her. I soon realized he was actually in trouble and hollering help. He was definitely panicking. I yelled at Jason as the woman jumped in the water. The guy dragged her under with him in no time and another guy had jumped off the platform to help. Jason was heading towards them, but was farther away. A second guy made it there first and then they were all able to get everyone safely to the beach. I was so thankful everyone was alright. He was extremely muscular so I don't know if he had a cramp or what happened, but it was scary! A good reminder to be careful.

Drama over we realized it was time to prepare rum punch for the crew to arrive. They got in and we directed them to the beach to find us and quickly got rum punch in the girls hands and beer in the guys. They began to relax immediately. We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging until they decided they were hungry. We enjoyed the beach bar for dinner that night and they tried the bleu cheesecake which we'd begun to love. I had a salad that was great too. We called it a night early since the travel group was exhausted and we knew St. John awaited in the morning.

Sunday: After a good nights sleep we were up and had breakfast at the Blue Moon and hit the beach. We'd entered the water and every one was happy for a few minutes before the girlfriend (Lina) started cussing and hobbling around in the water. I thought it was because she stepped on rocks, but soon realized it was a sea urchin. Not good! We all knew she was being proposed to that night and were even more worried that it would ruin the day! They went to the bar and the bartender said, same as jellyfish, have someone pee on it and don't try to pull the needles out. We all vacated the beach shortly afterwards and decided to pack up. Jason and I had been in the water for three days and never seen an urchin close to shore.

She was in pain, but after a quick call to her doctor and a doc on St. Thomas they informed her to use vinegar for the pain and watch for infection. We lugged our suitcases down the sidewalk and as we went by a guy said, I know it's horrible to leave isn't it...I had a big smile on my face as I quickly informed him we weren't leaving, just switching islands! Loved that!

We hit Malone's for lunch and found our way to Red Hook for the ferry. I think we were on the 1:00. We were to meet our villa rep at Starfish at 2:45. We got off the ferry and we were all just so dang happy! Brother goes to JJ's to collect drinks for everyone while dad and I head off to St. John Car Rental. Cars were had within minutes which was amazing, 2 Dodge Nitros that were perfect and we were loaded up and headed to Starfish. We bought the groceries we knew we'd need and enjoyed the new Gourmet next door. Very nice and we found the prices almost equal to similar stores in KC.

We soon met our greet from Island Getaways and off we went to Sol Inclination. Everything was running so smoothly we were shocked! More to follow.
