I'm an Olympic JUNKIE! Anyone else?
Did anyone else see France get spanked by the U.S. the other day?
That was one of the best things I've ever seen on TV! So exciting!!! GO Phelps!!! I love him! He's such a cutie pie!
It's really pathetic. I glue my a$$ to the couch and basically don't move for the entire 4-5 hours of primetime coverage. When I have to get up and go the the gym, I get raunchy, and after my workout, I race home like Jeff Gordon and make Honey give me a play by play of what I missed.
My little man's in the pool for the next two weeks learning advanced technical swimming (brought on by Phelps fever) and he's good! I think I need therapy treatment!
Anyone else? Is it just me?

I'm glad someone posted this, as it has been on my mind for a few days now! I am usually the same as you, too much usually is never enough of Olympic coverage. I just CANNOT get into it this year! I only got to see about the last 15 minutes of the very long opening ceremonies (long from what I hear), and maybe it has just ruined it for me!
Also, the programming just interferes with baseball too much! I try to flip back and forth, but come on...BASEBALL!
I guess I'll just have to catch the highlights on the news
I do totally respect the athletes and all of their hard work!

We’ve been watching the Olympics every night…I like to TiVo it so I can start watching it late and then catch up after fast-forwarding through the commercials and other stuff that I don’t care about. But I do make sure to watch the really good stuff live (like our guys smashing the trash-talking Frenchies…how incredible was that!?!?).
This year there in an Olympic runner from my hometown in central Illinois...she was a year behind me in school and went to the other high school in town, but I dated a guy on that school’s cross country team and she used to practice with the guys (including my former boyfriend) because she was really good. So it’s really cool that she has made it so far.

Thank goodness for the DVR, except those hi-def broadcasts take up so much room on the hard drive. Looking forward to the track stuff. I like seeing some of the obscure stuff too like the whitewater kayaking on the Universal HD channel this morning.

I find the Olympics with the addition of all these new events getting a bit more boring each year. Track and Field is about all I'll watch.
And you think the opening ceremonies were great ay. Well, they had one little cutie girl lip sync a song cuz the other girl whose voice was used was not as cutie.
And all those firewarks, well which ones were digitized.
And the seats aren't filling up so folks are being recruited to sit in them.

Get that kid out of the pool and as soon as you can get either a golf club or tennis racket in his hand. It's a better investment then swimming.chrisn wrote:Did anyone else see France get spanked by the U.S. the other day?

Promo...we have a swimmer and there's lots of unused swimming scholarships floating around campuses these days. They're all great sports. However, we're having a hard time keeping her interested at this point. After 12 years, she's burned out. I guess we'll have to hope for an academic scholarship. Don't want her to use up all our STJ relo $$$$ on college.

Sorry promoguy have to diagree with you about swimming not being a good investment. One thing we have learned with our daughter being a swimmer is the discipline required to practice and compete in swimming is that discipline transfer over to her edcuational pursuits. Most of these young swimmers, golfers, etc will never be earning a living in their chosen sport, so they better have that solid educational foundation to help them through life.
Finally, having been involved in swimming as a parent and official for over 10 years now, I am firmly convinced that swimming is the one sport I would recommend for every young person. In swimming you just don't see the raging parents, poor sportsmanship or other bad behavior associated with other sports.

How many more days?
I hear what you all are saying. I have nothing against swimming as a sport or as a means of getting a scholarship. What we're talking here is investment. Sure you never know if that young 'un makes it big or not, but let's face it one never knew if that 100 shares of Apple would turn into anything.
So again. Place that little tennis racket in the crib so that the seed is planted. Remember, it could be your retirement as Mr Williams has discovered.

Got to say swimming is great for the kids. Getting up at 4:00 AM to swim during High School seems to keep them out of trouble
Both my kids got nice swimming money at D1 schools. Lots of work but friends for life. Talk about nice shoulders & backs for life also!!!
Living in MD, we have been at meets with Phelps since he was a little guy along with sisters...nice family. I will never forget when he wore the full body suit for a little NBAC meet to see if he wanted to wear it at his first Olympics. We all thought it was wierd..would have liked some stock in those suits!
