villa bougainvilla
would love a recent review of villa bougainvilla in cruz bay. we will be staying there in july. thanks!!!
HI Bill,
We (my husband and I) stayed there in November. I wrote the following in my trip report. If you want more details - just ask.
We rented the Loft Suite at Villa Bougainvillea. It is located up the hill passed Gallows Point. We were quite pleased with this villa. There are 2 almost equal bedrooms (with AC), 2 bathrooms (one in the master BR), apartment sized kitchen (had a coffee grinder), and a great living/dining area. The front wall was open (had a rod iron railing with some awning material half way up) and looked out toward St. Thomas. Due to a large palm tree, not fully panoramic, but a very nice view - great for sunset watching. There were some signs of wear and tear, but overall it was very clean and in great shape. Debbie Schnell was great to deal with; very receptive to any questions or issues. The villa would be great for 2 couples (once you get through the "I want the bigger bedroom" debate); any more and the living room would feel crowded.

Bugger Villa
I stayed in this Villa on my second visit to the island. First time was at The Westin.
I believe you have to "hoist" your luggage up a winding staircase to get it in the villa. Wasn't fun nor easy as we had newbies with us that didn't know better than haul everything they own down there.
Water pressure and hot water was lacking but I needed a cold shower most of the time anyway.
We had a "screaming" kid in the lower villa that was sometimes aggravating, along with a rooster, but the rooster is a "must stay" so that those from "the big city" can hear what a rooster sounds like.
Would I stay there again? I've been going for several years and haven't yet. I probably would in a pinch.
And sorry but that Palm Tree needs to go. There are plenty of other Palm Trees to look at down there but there is only one view from that villa.

Ah, yes, the spiral staircase going up to the Loft Suite is a bit challenging with large and heavy luggage. Fortunately, it's up and down only once. (Bill - you didn't mention which suite you were renting).
I think the rooster may have moved; we didn't hear a rooster all week; although we did sleep with the AC on. There were a couple of cats that hung around; they weren't too annoying; as well as a good size lizard that hung out a couple of mornings by the BBQ - we didn't feed any of them. The lizard left, but the cats seemed to think they belonged.

There is washer/dryer on site. I didn't notice that on the website, so was pleasantly surprised ; saved us laundry fees.
I would recommend taking a small flashlight; the walk back at night can be fairly dark.

Hi Bill,
We had the bottom unit of Boug, when Jaysndee had the top. The unit was OK, but the bathroom was way to small for the two of us. I loved the location for availability to town.
We did have a constant knocking & never sould figure out what it was....
Jaysndee, sure glad you had that lovely visitor in your unit, you would have seen me runing down the road LOL.
