Private Taxi July 6
Private Taxi July 6
We arrive July 6 and were planningto take the downtown ferry to St. John, but it seems that our arrival day is the day that the new reduced ferry schedule goes into affect. We arrive at 2 pm. Anyone arriving that day around that time and interested in sharing a private taxi to Red Hook? I have not checked into this yet, but thought I would see if there are a few others who would like to share in this.
I hadn't heard about the reduced schedule, was planning on heading over to St. John on the 6th as well. I'll run it by my wife; it would be two of us plus a 18month old. With us and all our gear, my worry is it might get a bit crowded. Would a private taxi hold all of us and our gear? We'll be overnighting near Ch.Am. on the fifth and were just planning on calling a cab from our hotel. We were hoping to just go from Ch. Am instead of Red Hook.
Darmu - here is the link to my post of the "new" ferry times
There still is a 9am and 5:30pm ferry from CA to STJ Monday through Friday and an 1:00pm CA to STJ departure on weekends

See Pia's post regardeing reduced ferry schedule. According to the paper, there will be a ferry from Chralotte Amalie at 11:15 on the weekend. The 6th is the first day this new schedule is supposed to go into effect, so who knows what will end up happening. We would love to share a cab with you (most of the cabs are vans, so there should be no problem with space - a general cab will squeeze as many as 10 in for a ride across the island), but we certainly understand wanting to leave from downtown especially with a little one. Let me know.

I re-read it may would not be shocked if a day of golf and beer have screwed up my cognitive skills... BUT i think the CA to Cruz Bay is at 1 pm. The Cruz Bay to CA looks like the 11:15 run.
We will be in STT on July 4 and 5 looking to head over to STJ on July 6. I would have taken the 11am ferry but it looks like the 1pm for us now.
Am I drunk (yes kinda ) or reading the schedule wrong??

You are right. I read it again last night and realized I had the locations reversed. I guess I was so bummed when I saw that this all happens the day we arrive on island, that I skimmed through the article too quickly. I know that some things are slower to happen on island than others-hence "island time". For those of you who live on island, do you think they will really start this schedule Sunday, July 6 or do you think it will take a few days to get into the new schedule?
Thanks for the heads up guy's (re: the wrong time on my last post I have edited it now - maybe 1 or 2 too many drinks on Maho today for me to )
I do think it will go into effect on the day stated (if not sooner as many a time in the last month there has been a sign in the ticket booth window on STJ that they have cancelled one or more of the CA ferries - not everyday - but a few times that I have been travelling) - no "island time" when it comes to doing less work
